Men having sex with men has remained the disease's leading mode of transmission.
Heterosexual sex was the principal mode of transmission for blacks with the disease, 33 percent. Men having sex with men was the chief mode of transmission for white residents, 78 percent; and Latinos, 49 percent. Black women represent more than a quarter of HIV cases in the District, and most, about 58 percent, were infected through heterosexual sex. About a quarter of black women were infected through drug use.

It is amazing how the worst of everything, i.e. public education, black-on-black crime, aids, etc. flows forth from the same city that is the seat of power for those who would instruct, indeed command, us on everything. More amazing is how few in the broad electorate seem to get it.
Keeping it on the down low is when a guy, usually a black man, will be married or have a steady girlfriend. But he goes out and has sex with other men, but still insists that he isn’t gay or bisexual.
I read somewhere that in the urban community, being gay is still looked down upon as wrong (Prop 8 in california passed because of the high african american turnout), and therefore it is very hard to get an accurate statistic because the “gangsta” type guys won’t admit to gay sex.

Back when AIDS was known as the “gay plague,” people noticed that a lot of Haitians had it. This was because homosexuals were taking sex vacations in Haiti, but that wasn’t widely known then. It just looked like there were high concentrations of the disease in Haiti and among homosexual men.
A joke was told...”The toughest thing about getting AIDS is convincing your parents that you’re Haitian.”
Yeah, sure these black men are getting it from heterosexual activity. Just ask them. They’ll tell you.
My guess is they’re not being politically correct, but are being specific. Sexuality isn’t as black and white as gay/straight - it’s a continuum. There are men who, on the continuum, are mostly straight, but have (and act on) their coexistent attraction to other men.
So when these men have sex, it would be inaccurate to call it “homosexual contact”, because they’re not homosexual men. It is more accurate to call it “men having sex with men”.
If it were only about gay men, there would be no explanation for why so many non-drug using, married women get HIV.
I think it makes a lot of men more psychologically comfortable to think that sexuality is dichotomous, but it’s just not reality. It’s like people saying that Obama is black, and disregarding that he is half white.

Black men have sex with other black men (live on the “down low”) at alarming rates, then infect black women. I don’t understand how black men are then not the biggest percentage of people and not black women. hm.
I’ll bet in the Dupont Circle area it is 50%+.
Maybe the African bailout is needed in DC since they turn everyplace they live into an african pit.

WASHINGTON — At least 3 percent of residents in the nation’s capital are living with HIV or AIDS and every mode of transmission is on the rise, according to a report to be released Monday by D.C. health officials.
The findings in the 2008 epidemiology report by the D.C. HIV/AIDS Administration point to a severe epidemic that’s impacting every race and sex across the population and neighborhoods.
“Our rates are higher than West Africa,” said Shannon Hader, the administration’s director, who used to spearhead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s work in Zimbabwe. “They’re on par with Uganda and some parts of Kenya.”
The report, obtained by The Washington Post, updates a landmark 2007 study that discovered the epidemic had moved from affecting a mostly gay population to a general one, and that it disproportionately affected blacks.
The study found that the number of HIV and AIDS cases jumped 22 percent from the 12,428 reported in 2006. Almost 1 in 10 residents between 40 and 49 are living with the virus, and black men had the highest infection rate at almost 7 percent, the report said. It added that 3 percent of black women in D.C. have HIV.

There is still a stigma attached to it.
Look at McGreevy - he married and even had a daughter for the sake of appearances and his wife KNEW he was gay when she married him. It was a marriage of convenience for BOTH. McGreevy ONLY came forwar to distract and avoid going to prison.

Going in and out of their “ears” is not the main anatomical problem...it’s going in and out of other places that is. AIDS has got to be the most politically correct and medically avoidable disease on the planet. It’s not about “race” it’s about “behavior.”
