Sarah Palin vs. Barack Obama: The 2010 Money Race Begins
The Los Angeles Times ^ | Andrew Malcolm

Posted on 03/17/2009 7:23:11 AM PDT by lewisglad

Just when you thought it was safe to start checking your e-mail and snail-mailboxes again, possibly the two biggest names in political fundraising today are hitting the money trail again.

President Barack Obama. And Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Is this a very early pre-season matchup for 2012, at least moneywise?

The new president will headline an event for the Democratic National Committee in Washington on March 25, just before he starts his first overseas trip as chief executive.

It will be an early test of Obama's presidential moneyraising skills, given the complications of a sour economy and what D.C. Democrats admit is "donor fatigue" after Obama's $750 million haul during the presidential campaign of 2007-08. While his popularity remains in the low 60s or 59%, according to a new Pew Poll, that's about normal for this early in a new presidency.

Palin remains probably the biggest Republican name out there. Despite numerous invitations and interview requests in recent weeks, she's clearly made a decision to stay close to home for the legislative session and be seen to focus on the business of Alaska, where she faces an election next year.

Even if Louisiana Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal hadn't gotten such negative reviews for his GOP response to Obama's joint congressional speech, no one else yet matches the buzz and celebrity power of Palin on the Republican side; hence, the invitation and a royal coming-out opportunity for her on the big Washington stage.

All 0bama knows how to do is RUN FOR office, he doesn’t know how to PRESIDE IN office.

Therefore, he must be planning to give his Cabinet greater authority . . . or else Rahm Emanuel (God help us) will be the shadow president, perhaps???

So . . . Republicans and the GOP and Chair Michael Steele better be ON THEIR TOES and at the top of their game. Republicans do not need to be caught being lazy and unwilling to FIGHT for what is good, just and right about America.

And NO, Senator McCain, this does NOT mean YOU. Go home and retire and leave Politics to the Young Conservatives. We’ve had enough of your Bi-Partisanship to last us at least two decades.

be seen to focus on the business of Alaska, where “she faces an election next year”. ..................................... You can bet her opponent will get big $$$$$ from the DNC to try and defeat her.

“I’ll be donating directly to SarahPAC. Not a thin dime for the RNC.”

Ditto here.

This is why I continue to think that this will be the match-up for 2012 - it’s huge ratings for them.

Yes, the media loves its favorite son, Obama and loathes Palin, but, they love enormous ratings even more. Watch these next 3 years; the media will do everything it can to make this dream match-up become a reality and it will be a very sly and nuanced transition for them.

I imagine they will slowly begin to build her up so that she is a shoe-in to win the primary, and then they will delight in trying to tear her down for the general election.

I do believe that she can win a primary and general election without the help of the media, but they’re going to boost her profile and tear down her primary opponents to make sure that she’s the nominee. They had better be careful for what they wish, because once she gets to a general election, I think she wins.

I’ve already sent back 2 RNC donation letters annotated that all my donations are going to SarahPAC.

April will be the first month SarahPAC has to file a report with the FEC. Anyone who hasn’t donated yet, should do so by the end of March so that her numbers are as high as we can get them.

Yeah but just judging from his last election, he can spend money like it grows from trees and pull in the least amount of bang for the buck possible.

The guy just does not know how to use money with any efficiency. I suspect that Sarah will go much farther on less cash than Zero ever hopes to do.

Besides, if we could block false voter registrations this time and out of country foreign doners, Zero wont have much cash or votes at all. And just imagine if it were actually required to prove that you were an American Citizen this time.

Sarah would run by herself.

Quote:”Now that he’s snuffed the recession and gotten the economy back on track, the new president will headline an event for the Democratic National Committee in Washington on March 25, just before he starts his first overseas trip as chief executive.”

This is both the funniest, yet saddest thing I have read in a long long time.
