First lady Michelle Obama says community service isn't "just an escape for the wealthy," and that it can help do for young people what it did for her husband. She says it helped set Barack Obama on a path to being elected president.
Mrs. Obama on Tuesday continued her effort to encourage volunteerism by visiting more than 100 disadvantaged youths who came to the National Mall to begin building a "green" house for a Texas family whose mobile home was destroyed by a hurricane.
The students participate in YouthBuild, a nationwide program in which poor 16-to 24-year-olds work toward their high school diplomas or equivalents while learning job skills as they build affordable housing for the homeless and the poor.

Here’s an interesting tidbit, which I’m sure won’t impress the Obamas or their comrades. Wal-Mart is one the biggest corporate supporters of YouthBuild - providing a $5 million grant in May 2008.

Kinda hard to convince my kids not to be like those people in the orange vests picking up trash when they have to do it too.
And I have no doubt community service can be a good thing. I just refuse to have the government tell me that my children HAVE to.
This is obviously a big push since Michelle is propagandizing for it.
I guess Freedom and Liberty are overrated.

The absolute worst thing to happen would be for people to go into volunteering with a motive other than doing this because they want to.
I began volunteer work a year ago and there were so many positive, kind people there because they sincerely had the heart to dedicate themselves.
Doesn’t she have a mirror? That’s a disgraceful outfit.

This is just step 1 of Obama’s All Volunteer Army. (The one you won’t have any choice in joining.) If you think our “Yout” are dumb and brainwashed now, wait until they come out of a three-year stint in Obama’s Brown Shirts. They’/ll be thoroughly trained to turn in Mom and Dad if they say anything against against The Annointed One.
