Obama Ends 9/11 Policy Allowing Pilots to Carry Guns (The "Messiah")

Genius.

As was asked when this issue was debated -- and resolved, we thought -- "If you don't trust a pilot to carry a gun, what the [bleep] are you doing allowing him at the controls of a plane carrying 300 people?"

Nah, he's not a hard-core ideologue or anything. He just wants practical, common-sense solutions.

There is no logic behind this decision, because having armed pilots hasn’t been an issue at all. If pilots would have been armed, I’m certain 911 wouldn’t have happened.

One can only conclude this is ideology trumping logic and fact. Hussein is SO anti gun, he won’t even acknowledge that having armed pilots as a last line of defense to defend a plane could save lives.

God help us.

He REALLY is that damned STUPID!!!

All I know is...

If some terrorist attack involving airliners like 911 happens again, could it have been prevented if the pilots were armed? Since Hussein disarmed the pilots we would never know.

If something like that happens again, Hussein will face political destruction of the likes we have never seen. Of course the media will do their best to cover it all up for him.

Oh, didn't you know? Most flightdecks are outfitted with a fireaxe/multiuse tool. Besides, cabin personnel also have access to hot coffee for scalding and full pop cans to use as missles. We don't need a pilot with a gun turning into Rambo.

That he's taken valuable time to even THINK about reversing this program....

It's a double whammy. Unbelievable.

And now the bad guys will know that the pilots aren't armed.

ALPA news release, February 2, 2009:

ALPA Unveils 2009 Safety and Security Priorities

“ALPA leaders at the briefing also underscored the need for the airline industry to continue to raise the bar in securing the air transportation system. The association’s airline security representatives strongly emphasized the importance of

adopting an enhanced version of CrewPASS, the biometric-based security screening system for airline pilots, as a standing security program nationwide,

implementing ALPA recommendations for securing all-cargo airline operations and raising all-cargo security to the level already obtained in the passenger airline domain,

bolstering the Federal Flight Deck Officer program, which provides a critical layer of defense intended to protect airline cockpits from hostile takeover,

installing secondary cockpit barriers on all airliners.

“ALPA has been concerned about and involved in efforts to maintain and improve aviation security for decades; however, the terrorist attacks of 9/11 enormously increased our nation’s resolve to strengthen our security measures,” said Capt. Bob Hesselbein, ALPA’s National Security Committee chairman. “Much good work has been done during the past seven years, but much remains to be done.”

“Line pilot involvement is critically important on all these airline safety and security issues,” concluded Prater. “As the frontline professionals who make the airline industry work every day and every night of the year, we’re the ones who know what works and what doesn’t. We’re the ones with the view through the cockpit window.”

Founded in 1931, ALPA is the world’s largest pilots union representing 52,500 pilots at 36 airlines in the United States and Canada.

" I know Bush made it so difficult that almost none went through the program."

It doesn't matter in the sense that it was the unknown of a pilot possibly being armed.

Now that unknown will be no more.

I am SO GLAD I quit flying four years ago. I would not want to be in the air wearing a uniform right now.

My brother was a Captain with AA, flying trans Atlantic, and he quit about five years ago because “it’s gotten ridiculous.” I think the breaking point for him was when they tried to confiscate his pocket knife.

Does anybody know if they will revoke the firearms given to the pilots?

Each pilot that went through the program was given a firearm that could not be fired (even for practice) except under specific circumstances.
