Go to the URL provided above for a very interesting graphic. I did not bother to post it here since it took a while to download and I did not think it would show up if I linked it via HTML...

Largely inherited? Not in my family. We have a supergenius (not me, obviously). That high IQ was acquired in new mint condition, and gets buried with the one owner who rarely used it anyway.

Does this mean that not all people are created equal?

Y’know, I was wondering if the Neuroscience dept. at UCLA should worry about their federal funding...

"Among the most controversial issues related to the study of intelligence is the observation that intelligence measures such as IQ scores vary between populations. While there is little scholarly debate about the existence of some of these differences, the reasons remain highly controversial both within academia and in the public sphere."

Does the subject article and the Wikipedia entry cited here create a Matter / Anti-Matter explosion in Liberals' heads?

UCLA gets an A+++ for the wording on their release. Keep it complicated enough so the persons you are afraid of offending can’t understand it and voila... you are in the clear.

Of COURSE the peak potential IQ is inherited. Nutrition and environment will determine what percent of that potential is REALIZED. But I see no reason to ASSUME that inheritable IQ potential is the same for all groups - that is counterintuitive, since height, weight, proneness to certain diseases, and so many OTHER factors are not constant across groups.

An army of unqualified sociologists is engaged in arbitrary meta-analysis at this very moment, with the express purpose of debunking these harmful findings.

Fine, as long as we keep in mind that when we're talking about IQ (and other factors) of a group we're discussing statistical averages for that group.

This average tells us nothing whatsoever about any given individual in that group.

It is likely that IQ for all groups falls on the bell curve distribution. The shape and location of the curves is likely to vary between groups.

For instance, it is well known that female and male average IQ is almost identical. Yet the males predominate on the ends of the bell curve, having far more geniuses and far more mentally challenged. Females are bunched more tightly in the center of their curve.

This argument should have ended with the publication of the book The Bell Curve. Instead, political correctness killed the book and very nearly the author.

Also we need to understand that the difference between the “elites” in general and the general masses is NOT that great.

I know there are SOME that are very much above everyone else, but they’re rare, and somehow I don’t think the democRats have the monopoly on these rare individuals as they’d like to claim.

That would be 98% of the text "felt" by leftist spectrum, including "and" and "the."

Both of you put it quite nicely. A quote that I saw years ago, but forget the source was something like: "Your genes give you a range, and your environment puts you at a specific place within that range."

The author put it better than I did, but you get the idea...
