It's not exactly a revolutionary act but President Barack Obama has certainly put a few noses out of joint by deciding to shun - gasp - the Gridiron Club at this year's annual dinner.
For those not in the know, the white tie Gridiron dinner the most exclusive ticket in town as Washington's elite journalists gather to entertain, schmooze and gently rib their sources.
At first it was intimated that he was going to be in Chicago for spring break with his wife and daughters, but then it emerged he would be at Camp David. That's the presidential retreat in Maryland. A 20-minute helicopter ride away.
So what to make of this? Not much, possibly. On one level, it indicates where Obama's priorities lie. These are very serious times and the idea of dressing up in tails and listening to reporters' skits probably didn't really appeal.
But I wonder if this will be something that will return to haunt him? Already, such establishment mainstays as Howard Fineman and Robert Samuelson have been expressing a hitherto absent level of scepticism about "the One".
Far be from me to suggest that Washington journalists might be petty and vindictive but perhaps there might eventually be some payback for Obama's turning down the Gridiron invitation and sending Vice President Joe Biden instead.

Look, the Gridiron Club is a conglomeration of some of the biggest egos in town.
Even if Mr. Obama can’t or won’t make it, it doesn’t matter, really. It’s just one creep standing up, perhaps, a bunch of other creeps.
Zero snubs the Washington establishment to campaign for 2012, insult Special Olympians and to yuck it up on late night t.v. What a rebel!
He DID wear a WHITE TIE on Crowning Night, but he didn't wear tails.....and CLASSY people know you don't wear white tie WITHOUT TAILS!
I think he’s simply afraid of embarrassing himself - not only can he not tell a joke, I serious doubt he can take one.

I actually wish that the POTUS would scrub all such wastes of time off his schedule. No matter who the POTUS is, for at least four years he is, or should be, busy beyond belief.
The VP used to be assigned to stuff like that, and attending funerals of foreign leaders. But the VP has himself become too valuable to waste on foolishness like this.
By dispatching with that crapola, it would free up another hour a day for serious work.

The One shows his utter contempt for the fawning media that helped deliver the White House to him. He, and they, know they’ve burned too many bridges to go back to just reporting the news. The MSM will look more and more like a battered housewife; angry and hurt but with no place else to go.

Obama is a bum. He always makes the “little people” do all the work.
I guess it would, if we had a serious President. But O's gonna be kickin' it with his homies at Camp David while Joey Plugs catches the bricks.
I wish Obama would fill his days with this stuff, that way he would be to busy to screw with the economy.
For me, the best I ever saw was when Laura Bush took over for W at the WH press dinner..who knew she had perfect comedic timing??..
I didn't believe this until I looked on the Internet for pictures of Obama at the inauguration balls:
A rather basic, modern tuxedo (single breasted dinner jacket, no cummerbund) with a white tie.
And this is supposed to be the most nuanced, most intelligent, most elegant, the most perfected, the light being, the Lord Most Merciful, Barack Hussein Obama.
Is it no wonder he gave Gordon Brown a bunch of Region 1 NTSC DVDs?
And George W. Bush was supposed to be the rube.
