Unperplexing Opposition to the Hawaii Superferry (profiles groups blocking state's only ferry)
Hawai`i Free Press ^ | March, 2007 | Andrew Walden

Unlike other groups who pretend to have local roots, Maui Tomorrow unabashedly seeks support from rich outsiders for whom Maui is just a pretty tropical escape from the stresses of Hollywood or Silicon Valley. Maui Tomorrow leader Roger Sussman, writing in a March 2, 2005 Haleakala Times article, featured on the Maui Tomorrow website, describes his effort to contact and solicit funds from the Beatles’ George Harrison who “had picked gorgeous Maui's North Shore, out of all the attractive places in the world, to have his tropical retreat.”

Sussman then explains: “Alas, I never did find George, but there remains a need for potent, admirable, Maui-loving philanthropists to step forward and contribute in a big way to MT's operating funds. The challenges of keeping things sane, fresh, and beautiful around here continue, and those challenges aren't going to go away as our population increases.

If an interisland ferry company is required to file environmental impact statements before operating a ferry, why don’t operators of freighters and other ships traveling in and out of the various Hawaiian ports have to file similar envrionmental impact statements? Why don’t airlines have to file environmental impact statements for every route they fly?

George Harrison died in 2001. This fruit loop obviously had no luck finding him and asking for a donation in 2005.

Actually, Harrison got pissed off with the enviros and left Hawaii long before his death.

After he bought his property, he got sued by greenies and other demanding public access through his property to the ocean. When he said he felt like he was getting “raped” by them and the Hawaii legal system, they then sued him for defamation.

The real reason these people wanted ocean access? The trails across Harrison’s property were used by dope growers owning land in the area (most being Netherlands Antilles shell corporations) to get their crops to the shoreline where they were then carried away to offshore freighters by black speedboats in the middle of the night.

I always thought it was ironic that Harrison got done in by the illegal drug industry, since he and his fellow Beatles were instrumental in promoting the drug culture in the first place.
