Long article on a topic most people are probably sick of hearing about, but this really is worth the read.

The DSCC went up with their first ad on Aug. 1. ... Majority Action followed a week later, and other groups joined the attacks against us soon after. Over the next three months, outside groups spent more than $21 million in attacks against us.

So what lessons do we take away from this?

There is more here than merely the timing of an attack ad, the counter ad, and the counter, counter ad. What this is all about is the disintegration of a safe state in the old Confederacy. It is about the role of big money carpetbagging into the arena and deciding an election. It is about a giant mood swing in a formerly safe state reflective of a mood swing throughout the whole nation with which the Republicans for two elections now have been unable to cope.

Of course the fact that Liddy Dole was one of the most overrated politicians in America played a part. But even she should have skated through to victory in normal times.

Although Rahm Emanuel had worked on the House side, you can see that the Democratic Party has learned its lessons from him well. Friends, we've just been Blitzkrieged and we are still not quite aware of what hit us. Despite the fact we evidently out raised the Democrats in campaign contributions for the last reporting period, the entire Republican National Committee is a shambles led by a man who is obviously in beyond his depth.

Michael Steele must go and go quick Let me say one more time, we must find leadership for the Republican National Committee who can come in and shape up the troops like Patton. How about Rudy Giuliani? I would accept his Rino qualities if he agreed to keep his mouth shut about them and ramrod the mechanics of a political comeback. I would happily accept Newt Gingrich who has the same qualities as Rudy Giuliani but who is more reliable on the issues. There must be a real mechanic working somewhere within the party with conservative values and a silver tongue in his head who could step forward and redesign the Republican Party.

God knows there is no shortage of issues and a growing sufficiency of pissed off American who can be organized into a shattering victory against these Marxists in November 2010. I just don't think such a revolution can be organized in the club bar at the country club.
