Revealed: How Hero Father Died On Titanic After Leaving Lifeboat To Fetch Flask Of Milk For Wife And Children

By Daily Mail Reporter

25th March 2009

An heroic father perished on the Titanic while his wife and children sang songs to drown out the screams of drowning passengers, it has been revealed.

New archives reveal how brave Arthur West helped wife Ada and daughters Constance and Barbara onto a lifeboat before dashing back to their cabin to grab a flask of hot milk for them.

When he returned the boat was being lowered into the sea so he shimmied down a rope and handed them the thermos flask before climbing back on board the doomed liner.

Ada West had to watch as her brave husband gave her this thermos flask of milk before returning to the sinking ship

In doing so he passed up the chance to join them and instead watched as two foreign men sneaked on board and hid under the skirts of women passengers.

Mr West's brave actions and the cowardly act of the two men have emerged 97 years on after an archive of artefacts belonging to his family were made public for the first time

Among the items is the ancient flask, Mrs West's harrowing account of the sinking and a letter written on board Titanic four days before by Mr West.

In it he states how it had been a enjoyable voyage thus far with 'scarcely a movement felt' adding: 'I hope we have a calm trip....till we reach our journeys end.'

Mr West, a 36-year-old shopfloor walker, died on April 15, 1912, after the 'unsinkable' liner hit an iceberg on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York.

Afterwards, Ada and Constance, five, and Barbara, who was 10-months-old, returned to Britain

The two foreign men landed in New York and immediately became Union Organizers, Community Activists and DEMORATS!
They then wrote a ook on Global Warming and started the Greenhouse Gases Movement based on proven Science that was nondebatable! Only if Andrew had stayed on the Lifeboat and fought these two scumbags off, chasing them from their cowardly hiding places under women’s dresses!

they used to have people like that... now Europe is becoming a PC-Islamic state and only people like Geert Wilders and Daniel Hanan have any guts.

I can’t imagine how emotional that trip back to Britain was for them.

I remember the account of Horatio Spafford staying behind to deal with the aftermath of the Great Chicago Fire while his wife and four daughters sailed to Europe. The ship they were on sank and his wife survived while his four daughters died. His wife, Anna, sent him a telegram that simply said “Saved alone”. When Horatio sailed to Europe to be with his wife, he asked the ship’s captain to let him know the approximate place that his daughters perished. It was in the aftermath of all this that he wrote the words to the famous Hymn “It is well with my soul”.

To me, this account is a testimony to the power of God. I can never listen to or sing this hymn again without tears because of the deep sorrow and faith in God that it’s author was experiencing while writing it. I have included some of the lyrics to the song and read them through the prism of knowing “the rest of the story”.

“It is well with my soul” - Horatio Spafford

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

Refrain

My sin—oh, the bliss of this glorious thought—
My sin—not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Refrain

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
“Even so”—it is well with my soul.

Refrain

Something about the stories of the Titanic is entrancing. I almost see a metaphor for what the US is doing right now with Odumbo at the helm.

The best line in the movie "A Night to Remember" was from one of two upper-class Englishmen who hadn't met before that night and were loading women and children into the lifeboats.

One of them looked at the other one and said "I expect that you and I will be on the same boat."

Or something like that.

One of my grandmother’s relatives had a ticket on that boat.

They got bumped.

Great story, but under women’s skirts? Something smells fishy. Were lifeboats determined to be overweight by a level in the ocean, or amount of passengers? Or, did they have a convenient scale nearby?

I usually miss the anniversary of the Titanic sinking, but today I remembered. Tonight marks, I believe, 97 years since. A few decades ago I picked up Walter Lord’s book, “A Night to Remember,” and read it from beginning to end. It is a truly fascinating point of history.

Since then I’ve learned from Dr. Ballard’s explorations and so many discoveries and books by others who are interested in the Titanic. It is haunting bathos in every respect. We’re only a few years from the 100th anniversary. Maybe some intrepid souls will take that cruise once again from Southampton to NYC in commemoration of the same.
