Drug War Doublespeak By Laura Carlsen | March 9, 2009 Through late February and early March, a blitzkrieg of declarations from U.S. government and military officials and pundits hit the media, claiming that Mexico was alternately at risk of being a failed state,1 on the verge of civil war, losing control of its territory, and posing a threat to U.S. national security.2

The discourse aims not to win the war on drugs, but to assure funding...

Yep....it's to continue the gravy train of American foreign aid to Mexico, the integration of our 2 nations into one (via the North American Union), & the expansion of government power over our lives w/ a back-handed slap @ individual liberty & personal responsibility.

The third world drug slaves are starting to burglarize stores and kidnap skinny, blond-haired, blue-eyed teenage girls in US resorts and other upscale neighborhoods. The situation brought by liberaltarian Democrats/Republicans is getting interesting now. ;-)

the violence is caused primarily by prohibition. the drug trade does not need to be violent if you legalize the cultivation, distribution, and use of these products as any other vice such as alcohol, tobacco, and gambling.
Drug Control as used by government is quite the misnomer. What it creates is an untenable position that only leads to further violence, sounds more like Drug Un-control to me.

As many of us have experienced, .egitimized organized crime is worse than illegal organized crime. We see what happened after all of the nasty trash that was in organized crime decades ago obtained degrees and became despotic officials.

Pretty good on both sides, untill the Illegal side grows overly powerful, and challenges the Legalunlegalists who make it illegal.

The taxpayers are the ones funding BOTH sides, while being denied FREEDOM from both!

The drug war is one big expensive fraud. There are cheap and potent drugs in every city and town all over the country. I wouldn’t be surprised if the government and money laundering banks were directly involved in the drug trade. There’s too much money involved for the government not to have a hand in it. We are spending billions of dollars to fight this drug war and a 15 year old could still buy any drug he wants as long as he has the money. I’m not sure if we should legalize drugs but the current strategy is ridiculous.

You are very much misinformed. The drug war has provided funding for some of the most insidious gangs in the history of the US.

After 30 years the drugs are still readilly avaiable.

The only thing worse than a failed policy with very dangerous consequences, is people who don't recognise what they have caused.

Totaly, You like misunderstood me.

The taxpayers are funding both sides. The mega high tech paramilitary "legal" forces, and by being forced by illegality, they also fund the black market paramilitary forces.

Without the enforcement of prohibition, they both lose!!!!

Why fund a WOD, when drugs are cheap and freely available? Why would anyone smuggle drugs when they are cheap and freely available?

Prohibition has worked out pretty well for both sides!

Is it any wonder it is still in place?

Seems to be working out great for those wanting to shred the Constitution.
