First of all, Messrs. McDonald and Lawlor happen to be two of five openly gay members of the General Assembly. They also recently introduced a bill to legalize assisted suicide.

Isn't the constitutionally protected buggery practiced by gays already a form of assisted suicide?

I think anti-Bible-believing Evangelical Protestant bigotry is considered an acceptable prejudice today as well.

And so it will always be for those who follow the narrow and unpopular way of the Cross. The Church has been the target of enemies and ignorants from within and without for 2,000 years. Yet still she stands. Because even the gates of hell cannot prevail...

People have been blaming Whitey for everything for decades, so the religious are not alone.

How about anti-Mormonism? That seems to be fairly acceptable, too.

(No, I’m not Mormon).

I don't think Catholics are the last acceptable prejudice. To qualify, I am friends and family with a lot of Catholics, and attend a weekly prayer group held at the local Catholic Church, so I think I can offer an opinion that has a lot of experience to back it up: meaning no disrespect, but a general trait I run across often is a well-developed Catholic persecution complex. I am sorry to say that I have also observed a fair amount of protestant bashing, especially of Baptists and other more fundamental Christian groups.

Since I also attend meetings with those groups, I can also say that I have not observed anywhere near the same amount of Catholic bashing in those groups.

For whatever they're worth, those have been my observations going back quite a few years. I hope I don't offend any Catholics here; I certainly do not mean to offend, but these are my observations.

"that want the church to become a ‘democratic’ institution, the state becomes a partner in creating an egalitarian church that reflects the will of the people rather than the guidance of her leaders.”

This has been the goal of modernism, liberalism, and ecumenism for years. Liberal Catholics have gradually been evolving into a new religion, a heresy, which is not the Catholic faith but a vague pseudo-religious rubber stamp of liberalism and social engineering. The Church of Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, and John Kerry. It is not the Catholic faith. Unfortunately, clergy and members of the hierarchy have cooperated in this. The cult of social justice which abandons the unborn.

The fact remains that Obama could not have won without liberal Catholics voting for him. I’ve seen the stats of either 52% or 57% of Catholics voting for Obama. They have gotten what they voted for. The same people in my neighborhood who in October had Obama/Biden signs on their laws were the same people in my neighborhood who in December had Nativity scenes on their lawns.

Just like the Republicans have to look inward and see where they failed and lost our trust and votes the Catholics have to look inward and reflect why so many of their members go to church on Sunday but live and vote like the devil the rest of the week.

Every man and woman has to look first at their own problems before taking aim at others of opposite persuasions. That’s a biblical tenent.

"Catholics and Catholicism are at the receiving end of a great deal of startling vituperation in contemporary America, although generally those responsible never think of themselves as bigots.”

Don't have to travel through too many threads on the religion forum to miss that fact.

I know this is from a year ago,but I don’t understand the hatred directed at Catholics. What’s the story?
