Palin's prayer remark angers former staffers (McCain staffers after her yet again)

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Some of Sarah Palin's former campaign aides are frustrated with the Alaska governor for remarking in a lengthy, freewheeling speech that she had refused to pray with them before last October's vice presidential debate.

Palin told the story in a speech to a GOP dinner in Alaska last Friday.

"So I'm looking around for somebody to pray with, I just need maybe a little help, maybe a little extra," she said of the moments before the debate. "And the McCain campaign, love 'em, you know, they're a lot of people around me, but nobody I could find that I wanted to hold hands with and pray."

As the audience laughed, Palin noted that she meant no disrespect to the McCain campaign and that ended up saying a prayer with her daughter Piper.

A handful of the McCain campaign staffers who traveled with Palin nearly every day for two months caught wind of Palin's remarks on Thursday morning — and they aren't thrilled with her quip.

"We all talked this A.M.," said one former Palin aide in an e-mail. "This set off a nerve for sure with a lot of people."

"It's yet another example of the few staff still loyal to Palin questioning their loyalty and ardent defense of her over the several months since the campaign," said the aide, who was granted anonymity to speak candidly about campaign colleagues.

Too funny. I guess I shouldn’t let myself get distracted before hitting the post button. A lot can happen on FR during a snack break.

I love that picture of Piper. The Palins are such a warm, genuine family, who are not ashamed of their faith.

Palin’s Initial remark was uncalled for.

I think she just tripped up on her words. Palin is usually pretty gracious

I can see why she had trouble finding someone to pray with. It is hard to open your heart with bunch of sour whining loosers with power complexes.

Perhaps they should study the meaning of the word staff. It has something to do with being the servant not the master. The reason Obama is in the White House is that McCains staff somehow thought that they were the masters. It is painfully obvious to me that McCains Staff blew the election by not letting Sarah be Sarah.

Thinking themselves to be wise, they became the fools.

Loyal McCain Staffers and Palestinian Peace Partners are much alike I see. They exist only in the minds of the MSM.

How come if they are so “loyal”, do they not call themselves Sarah Palin Staffers? If the campaign was meant to win, why did not Sarah have staff? She was treated like window dressing, not like the prize that she is.

We should also pray for our President Obama. The Bible says that we should pray for our leaders and Obama is our leader.

Would God have us pray for Absolan? God destroyed those that supported him because he stole the throne. Obama's million dollar effort to cover up his inegibility to be president via his birth certificate indicates clearly he is an Absolan, and I will pray for him. For JUSTICE!

"Palin is too honest when she speaks to have much of a future in national politics,"

How sad of you to think that way.

"But that is a pretty crappy thing for Palin to say."

Sometimes the truth hurts. I don't think we know the full story of what was happening behind the scenes. Palin was being blasted from the outside....sounds like she was taking it internally as well.

Remember how these people attacked her after the election. I certainly would not call that loyal.

“Anonymous staffer” sounds an awful lot like “lying gutless coward” to me.

Comments like this from Palin are why she is a bad idea for the future of the party.

First, she re-enforces the notion that the GOP is the party of “Holier then Thou”. She wants people to believe that she was this pure little Christian trying to practice her faith in the company of evil-doers and heretics who wouldn’t pray with her. Certainly she must have been able to see that the majority of folks around her were working hard and scrambling to do their jobs. If she felt the need to pray in a group, she could have bowed her head with family members or close friends that she knew shared her need for same, not try to avengelize to those who she was working with. (I am always skeptical of those who go against the Gospel of Matthew and make a public show of their faith).

Next is this droning on and on about how the MSM and the Dems were out to get her. Of course the Dems jumped on every little mistake and possible “scandal”. That’s what the opposition does- we do it to. And the MSM is lazy and takes the easiest way to making headlines. Remember every dumb comment and interview stumble that they reported, Palin executed. Dan Quayle, many years after his time in office, said that he was trounced by the MSM but that he gave them plenty to jump on. If Palin had prepared herself better, perhaps even listened to the professional campaign people who tried to help her through the campaign, maybe things would have gone better for her and we wouldn’t be where we are right now.

If you love Palin’s positions on issues, that is great and the right reason to support any candidate. But she is required to get her “A-game” together and bring it. You can’t say that she is above all of that, or “she is a different kind of candidate who doesn’t have to perform like other candidates, she’ll go around the MSM, etc....” That is exactly what followers of Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul have always said and those two will never be elected to an office higher then the one they hold.

Palin got trounced because she wasn’t ready for prime time. She was picked on the fly and was not prepared for the big league when she was thrown in the spotlight (I know- three cliche’s in one sentence). She should have focused on getting herself up to speed rather then try to win people over with smiles, children, Jesus and charm. When you play baseball, bring a glove and bat. If you bring a soccer ball to a baseball game you can’t be surprised when you are laughed off the field. She was playing an age old game and should have prepared herself or counted on the seasoned professionals to help her out. Now, however, stop bashing others about what turned out to be her weaknesses.

Newbie, yeah right. I’ve been on this forum for more then a year and many more before that as a supportive lurker.

When you joined the forum (according to your profile) we had just regained Whitehouse. At the beginning of 2000, we had the House, Senate, Whitehouse and were hopeful for Bush’s ability to stack the courts with conservatives. The conservative revolution was on the edge of complete victory.

Under your leadership and activism, we have a socialist in the Whitehouse, they control both houses of the legislature and are ready to fill judgeships with leftists.

Thanks for the advice grandpa but when I pray for America I include in my prayers a plea to be delivered from ineffectual dolts on my side of the political aisle who would rather whine about how they are abused then work to change the condition.

“I didn’t see any questionable remarks; what were they?”

Then let me be blunt: IMO Palin should rise above any snarky/petty remarks. Period.

Perhaps that would please you, but to those that thrive on total reality, those informative anecdotes are welcomed.

The Lord didn’t say “if you can’t beat’em join’em,” he said to be set apart. That means that we need to know from whom to be set apart.

It would please me if a woman I think highly of rose above petty remarks.

Perhaps you and I are not understanding each other.

And I seriously doubt the Lord approves of pettiness.

"Palin got trounced because she wasn’t ready for prime time. She was picked on the fly and was not prepared for the big league when she was thrown in the spotlight"

That has to be the most politically invidious statement that I've read here this month.

Sarah Palin has spent most of this decade in the spotlight, while telling it like it is, and winning soundly in the process.

She didn't get trounced; she just wasn't given enough time and influence in the campaign to counter the tremendous drag that McCain and his RINO crew were. Had she ben the candidate herself, or paired with a more eloquent and supportable candidate, like Romney, we would have had a win.
