OHIO SECRETARY of State Jennifer Brunner, a Democrat who is running to fill the seat of retiring Ohio Republican Sen. George V. Voinovich, has launched one of the oddest political attacks in recent memory.
Brunner said that Voinovich, who voted with his fellow Republican senators in an unsuccessful attempt to block the $787 billion economic-stimulus bill passed last month, should have voted for the measure. The reason? To spare taxpayers the cost of flying Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown by military aircraft from Mansfield to Washington to cast the deciding vote.
Democrats needed one vote to prevent a GOP filibuster, but Brown was attending his mother's funeral in Ohio, and ailing Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., also was unavailable. So Democrats asked Voinovich to vote for the measure. He declined.
Instead, Senate Democrats delayed the vote for five hours while the White House sent a military aircraft to Ohio to fetch Brown.
To criticize Voinovich for refusing to vote against his beliefs is bizarre. And pointless, because Voinovich won't be her opponent.
I remember the ACORN business. Sounds like a winning candidate, I’m afraid. She’ll steal it, just like Christine Greguiore out in Washington.
Who are her GOP opponents? For the Senate, I mean—not in general!
OMG she’s nuts!!
Ohio ping
Ohio is going back to the days of Metzenbaum and Glenn with Brown and Brunner - it makes me ill.
Rob Portman is running for the GOP nominee.
Brunner is a dingbat!
Thanks. Is Ken Blackwell considering a run?
Brunner is an evil dimwit who would make a great stooge for the anointed one. We must do all we can to ensure that doesn’t happen.
“Who are her GOP opponents?”
I heard former GOP Congressman Rob Portman is running. I’ve heard a lot of good things about him.
I don’t know how Brunner thinks she’s qualified to be Senator, after what she did. She’s probably enlisting the help of her ACORN buddies.
I hope and pray Ohio will turn around and elect a good conservative as Senator and then vote for Sarah in 2012!!
Rob Portman, I believe.
Blackwell endorsed Portman a few weeks ago. With Blackwell's shellacking by Strickland, he's damaged goods in Ohio and probably will be for at least another couple election cycles.
That’s a shame. I’d vote for Ken Blackwell in a heartbeat.
Unfortunately, you'd be in the clear minority. Blackwell couldn't even get 37% in the last Ohio gubernatorial election.
I don’t think so. Nothing in the rumor mill!
Tell me about it.
Amazing << Hear this. Feel this, and tell me that this isn't music.
Oh, dear...
Brunner is beyond a nut job.
I would love to see John Kasich in the race.
Jennifer Brunner should not be allowed to be the one to count votes when she is running for the Senate. Step down now!
Ping!
We can’t let this happen.
We need to start campaigning now. Writing letters to editors and shining a light on this “candidate.”
1. WE cannot allow her 0bama payback be a Senate seat.
2. Who do we have and are they able to meet one simple criteria...honesty.
I have no use for Cryin George. NOne.
