It's obvious the camera loves President Barack Obama. But are American audiences growing tired of his seemingly ubiquitous TV appearances?
This week alone, the president has been on "60 Minutes," held a press conference during primetime (networks reluctantly bumped "American Idol" and "Biggest Loser" to make room for it) and answered viewer questions at his first-ever online town hall meeting. And all this is in addition to ESPN’s sporadic updates on how his NCAA bracket is doing.
New York Times columnist Gail Collins put it this way:
"…there appear to be only two constants in our ever-changing world. One is that Barack Obama is going to be on television every day forever. No venue is too strange. Soon, he’ll be on 'Dancing With the Stars' ('And now, doing the Health Care, Energy and Education tango ...’) or delivering the weather report. ('Here we see a wave of systemic change, moving across the nation ...’)"
Others criticize President Obama, who is known for his fiery orations, for "being boring" and "dull". LA Times blogger Andrew Malcolm likened Obama's Tuesday night primetime presser to a lackluster college lecture:
"Professor Barack Obama showed up. And if you remember one of those required college lecture courses in the large auditorium at 8:10 a.m., listening to a droning don, and how it felt, slumped in the cushy seats having skipped breakfast for an extra 13 minutes of ZZZZs."
The TV ratings seem to echo the feelings of those less-than-enthused critics. According to Nielsen, Obama’s much hyped primetime appearance attracted 40 million viewers, down 18% from his February 9 press conference and down 23% from his February 24 address to Congress.
But there are those who defend the president's pervasive media strategy, saying his constant presence is reassuring to the American public.

No, it’s not reassuring at all. It’s annoying, nauseating, and sickening, all at the same time.
Getting Obama out of the Oval Office is change we really CAN believe in.
I turn the TV Channel or listen to another Channel whenever he comes on. Can’t stand the constant platitudes.
There’s a lot of words I’d use to describe when Obama speaks. “Reassuring” isn’t one, but it can be used to make the word I **AM** thinking of...(letters 3-5).
Too bad voters didsn't understand what he meant was "I sure HOPE this economy turns itself around someday."
Maybe if he wore a big round red nose on his next TV appearance.
Can proudly say I have seen absolutely none of it.
I will admit that I did listen to part of the Afghan speech.
Because I want to see what he’s going on the record with before he changes the position and claims there was never a change in the position.
Over-exposure is never a good thing whether it be in the entertainment world, the sports world or politics. He’s got nowhere to go but down. After 9-11 Bush had a 91% approval rating (the highest for any president) and had nowhere to go but down. Unless he can snap his fingers and do some great things his approval ratings will continue to slide from the 50s to the 50 mark and then into the 40s, just in time for the mid-term elections. Then it’s anybody’s game.
If he is constantly in front of a camera, then who is running the WH/Oval Office? Or do I really want to know —— having the suspicions I have.
I quite watching teevee years ago. Just one more reason not to change.
he interrupted American Idol. That was the beginning of his downfall. The DUmmies love AI more than they will ever love him. He’s over exposed and they are bored with him now.
0bama obvously thinks he’s a celebrity and has to go on TV everyday.
