Not very wise giving a down payment on a car that does not exist to a company that may not exist tomorrow... Details, details...

How long does it take to recharge from a 110 VAC, 20A outlet?" A week?

I just posted the link because I get a kick out of the knee jerk electric car bashing. I don’t have 50K laying around, but if it was 25K I would probably get one. Only on rare ocassions to I need to drive more than 300 miles in one day. If I did, I would just plan my dinner stop around the recharge.
I don’t think they really expect people to be swapping out batteries, but just wanted to build in that capability. Given the pace of improvements in battery technology, having something that could be “upgraded” in five minutes to the next generation of batteries would be a selling point.

How big are the batteries, I wonder? And is that 45-minute charge for the small one or the big one?
Dunno, but when I drive my gas-powered SUV around, it charges up the battery, right? Why can't the Tesla batteries get charged up when the vehicle is being driven around? Does that violate some "perpetual motion" law? LOL

Could be, but they did put the Tesla Roadster into production.

Yeah, that would be great having to swap batteries every 300 miles on my $50,000 car.
I wouldn't be surprised to see electric "recharging" stations pop up, where you can get a quick charge or have your battery swapped out. Could it be much worse than having to stop and pump gas?

True, but if you start with a full charge, you could drive 600 miles on one 45 ou minute charge. Also, if your destination is only 400 miles, a 10 minute charge would give you enough juice to complete the trip and then you just plug in when you get there.

I think a good business to look at would be mobil recharging trucks, just plug into a generator on a flat bed and charge as you drive down the road - like the plane in-flight refueling?

I was wondering the same thing. I read that the Tesla has a 248-hp motor. Assume it takes 5 hours to travel 300 miles. So it would use 248hp x 746 watts/hp x 5 hours = 925,040 watt hours. 110VAC @ 20A = 2200 watts. 925,040 watt hours/2200 watts = 420.47 hours or 17.52 days.

Well, unlike diesel this won’t make your boots smell like hell when you step in it.
(Use diesel trucks on the ranch because they tow, and the fuel is stable for long term-storage. I otherwise despise them for this reason alone.)

At 50K you’re probably right, but if they could get the base price down to that of a diesel, the operating cost of an EV are much less. In their spec sheet, a $4.00 charge will get you 300 miles. Also, no transmission, no oil change, etc. And an electric motor can last almost forever.
