The primaries are always front loaded with liberal states but this past cycle the conservative states were deep into the cycle so that McCain had such a lead that he became the presumptive favorite. Iowa and new Hampshire let's Independents vote in the Republican primary. This is how a small group in the party can have more control than their numbers give them. Also you get another moderate to play conservative and hang around and split the conservative vote. The last cycle we had so many RINO’s running it was next to impossible for a true conservative to get traction. Fred Thompson might have if he had not waited so long to get in. At any rate these things were planned because the RNC figured conservatives would show up because they had no better place to go. In a large part that is what happened. Right now we have the head of the RNC making statements that inflame the pro life people in an attempt to make it easier for a moderate to get the nomination. Now I don't think that will work for them but it is clearly what they are doing. We need to pressure the RNC to quit giving tiny liberal states like Iowa and New Hampshire so much influence on selecting a candidate.
