our local dealer wasn’t willing to deal so I went with a Mazda instead

So, you bought a Ford, anyways. (Mazda = Ford in Asia)

“So, you didn’t buy the Mazda, you bought the Mazda?
(Milan is a Mazda 6).”

Exactly. And I made sure I let the Mercury guy know that I went with the 6.

I have a 5 speed Fusion with a 4 cylinder. Ford geared the 5th too low and it could get around 38 mog or more if it was geared higher.

The Fusion Hybrid is a good car and with the incentives & tax credit it is closer to $23,000. It is a shame Ford cannot bring over some of their direct injection diesels in the Fusion. The Ford Mondeo which is comparable is quick, quaiet and get about 45+ mpg AVG.

Right. But it wasn’t about Ford vs Mazda, rather it was our local Ford dealer vs our local Mazda dealer and who wanted my business more.

I drive a 2003 Ford Ranger Edge and have always loved it. I am rooting for Ford as one of the few remaining real American Companies.

Try another dealer and the new Taurus should be in the show-rooms any day now.

“It is a shame Ford cannot bring over some of their direct injection diesels in the Fusion”

I know! Ford’s diesels in Europe are really good! They need to bring them here!

I mean, Volkswagen brought its Jetta TDI here and it’s rated 29 city, 40 hwy (with the automatic), but real-world testing showed that it averages 38 city, 44 hwy, with many buyers reporting 50 mpg or more. It is selling well.

The government needs to reduce its taxes on diesel, so more people will use it.

“the new Taurus should be in the show-rooms any day now.”

I heard it will be available in July 2009.

By the way, I saw that Ford temporarily shut down its Chicago assembly plant where the 2010 Taurus will be built. I think they will be retooling it for the new model.

The govt is scamming us. We could reduce our energy independence if they allowed more diesel but they want the gas tax money. I recall CA freaking out because they were worried lots of people in CA would buy a Prius and gas taxes would dry up.

If everyone drove a diesel we would import about 20 to 35% less oil. The Saudis own DC and the Teleprompter.

I just looked at the redone Sable (or Ford Taurus)which is a Montego (or Ford 500) with a 3.5L engine. Very quiet and comfortable. 21 cubic feet of trunk and more room in the back than a Grand Marque. 0% for up to 72 months. Price is kind of high because it wears the union label.

Find a Ford Employee to Sponsor you for "X" plan for friends and extended family. The savings could be substantial.

I do not know if this offer works with "X" Plan.

If you can wait a year join the Experimental Aircraft Association ( And get the magazine )

EAA members get "X" plan, Ford is a big sponsor of EAA.

They put a year limit on it...To join go to: http://www.eaa.org/

“The govt is scamming us”

Agreed. They scream for more fuel efficient cars, but when they arrive, they freak about their tax revenue being reduced.

We need more diesel cars. We really do!

My list of problems regarding Fords is substantial starting with anemic engines to their associations with the UAW. If one still wishes to support Ford but not the UAW, buy Mazda. They are in bed with Ford but the Mazda plants are mostly union free. The ‘3’ is a great car and is not union built.

I rented a Mazda 6 when my car was getting repaired. I loved the auto/manual shifter.

Ford turned Mazda around when Mazda was in bankruptcy or almost in BK. Over a decade ago? They sent over Ford execs to turn things around. Nothing is perfect but Ford, Mercury and Lincoln’s quality is high and keeps improving.

I think at the peak Ford owed over 40% of Mazda. The Japanese govt would not allow them to own more as far as I know. Ford reduced their ownership rcently I think to raise more capital.

IMHO Diesels wil be boat anchors in 10 years....

Google : HCCI and do some research on it ; Homogeneous Continuous Compression Ignition.

Ford and GM are doing tons of reseach on it.

Also Google Ford+Project+Bobcat+Truck.

Their is rumors of a large truck engine with direct suplemental Alcohol Injection into the cylinders for cleaner burn. This is an MIT Invention which may allow smaller engines with less power, etc.....

...I believe of the big 3, they’re the ones that will survive without the need or influence of a gov’t bailout.

Ford makes great trucks. Zero wants GM/Chr to do away with trucks. Hmmmmm. Do you think Ford can survive?

Ford makes fabulous big cars, like the Lincoln and Crown Vic. Zero wants GM/Chr to make 2-seat commuter electrics. Hmmmmm. Do you think Ford can survive?

Zero will make an edict, and Ford will have to bow... but Ford will make lots of money until then!

Have you driven a Ford, lately?
