Ford Motor Co. is offering a new incentive plan, including 0% financing and a job-loss assurance program, to try to jump-start slumping vehicle sales and boost consumer confidence.
The auto maker will offer 0% financing through its finance arm and will cover payments for up to 12 months on any new Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle if customers lose their jobs. The offer will run through June 1.
Rival Chrysler LLC began offering 0% financing, along with rebates, employee pricing and discounts up to $6,000 in January as it looked to clear out dealers' inventories and boost sales. So far, the moves haven't seemed to help Chrysler as it struggles to stay afloat.
The Big Three-- Ford, Chrysler and General Motors Co. have been slammed by the recession. Chrysler and GM in particular are faltering, and President Barack Obama's administration said Monday that the two auto makers' plans don't show a "credible path to viability."

Of the 3, I would consider only Ford for a new car.
I’m already paying for GM and Chrysler, and the value ratio SUCKS.
I’d recommend the Fusion. I have one, and it is a really nice automobile - very well put together and drives beautifully.
You know when the auto industry began it’s downward slide, I didn’t think Ford would be the viable one. But I believe of the big 3, they’re the ones that will survive without the need or influence of a gov’t bailout.
It appears the federal government is now in competition with Ford, wonder who is going to win?
“Id recommend the Fusion. I have one, and it is a really nice automobile - very well put together and drives beautifully.”
I test drove a Mercury Milan a couple of years ago and loved it, but at the time our local dealer wasn’t willing to deal so I went with a Mazda instead.
I’ll bet now he’d be willing to deal! lol
Their execs have been gathering every morning to pray their competition will take government funds.
This is the way that capitalism works.
With govt involvement in GM and Chrysler, we will get badly made cars that no one wants funded by my tax dollars, which will be sued again to pay overpaid workers benefits I can only dream of having.
To rub sores into the wound even more, my tax dollars will be used to provide “incentives” to entice people to buy the cars they make.
I say no thanks, and start getting the set stage to put this puppy on trial as the most unconstitutional power grab this country has ever witnessed.
I want a Mustang! Seriously - I guess the deal applies to them to.
“Id recommend the Fusion.”
OOOOOOOOH YEAH!!!!!!! I like the Fusion, especially the 2010 Fusion Hybrid. I’d really like one of those, except they cost $28,000. But the regular Fusion is only around $19,000 and they get 34 mpg hwy!!!!!!
Ford’s on the right track! I think they will be the last American-based automaker standing.
A charitable component is part of the program at the local level according to Paul W. Smith this A.M. on 760 am in Detroit.
In these tough times, many local organization and charities are hurting. This will help local communites, good marketing move BTW....
Go to the Free Press today and look at the 7 minute movie and stories about Ford, quite positive.
Also 100 Fiesta's are now on American Soil and 100 lucky people were loaned them to drive for a while for feedback. Apperently it is causing quite a buzz amongst the computer/web savvy kids...
Ford’s official announcement doesn’t mention which of their vehicles will be eligible for the 0% financing.
Does anyone know more details?
How about this for an encitive:
“We are still free! (for now)
Please buy Ford so we can remail that way.”
That’s good. But, I buy used. The newest outfit I own is an ‘85 Dodge pickup.
Ford is doing a good job. That’s what happens when your CEO has a clue.
“I test drove a Mercury Milan a couple of years ago and loved it, but at the time our local dealer wasnt willing to deal so I went with a Mazda instead.”
So, you didn’t buy the Mazda, you bought the Mazda?
(Milan is a Mazda 6).
The Fusion is a great car.
If only the local Ford deal was not a douche bag. I would go in for service and the ‘20 minute guaranteed for $0’ oil change would take two hours and a sales presentation on a Focus. I am 6’5” and do not fit easily into a Focus.
The sales dweebs were all drooling former pro-jocks who could not do simple interest in their even at zero percent. Zero for 60 is the price divided by sixty and my showing tow of ‘em how to do it on their calculator was seen as some sort of quantum physics.
I just bought a fully-loaded 2009 F-150. And I couldn’t be happier.
“Thats what happens when your CEO has a clue.”
Exactly! Alan Mulally was CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes before he became CEO of Ford. He did miracles at Boeing and dramatically turned the division around. He pushed for lean manufacturing techniques and new product development. He’s doing the same at Ford.
Ford is coming out with some amazing new products; the 2010 Taurus, 2010 Fusion & Fusion Hybrid and the 2011 Fiesta are all good examples.
