Sen. Marian Walsh declines controversial post after PR "tsunami"
Boston Herald ^ | 3/31/09 | Hillary Chabot

Seeking to quell the “tsunami” of outrage over her plum post, state Sen. Marian Walsh (D-West Roxbury) said today she won’t take a $120,000-a-year position that had been vacant for 12 years.

“I feel I have become the issue,” an emotional Walsh said in a hastily called press conference outside Gov. Deval Patrick’s office. “This is my decision. I think it’s best and I still think I can be helpful.”

Patrick, while calling Walsh highly capable, said he wished he handled the appointment differently, adding he is relieved by her decision.

FYI: It might be helpful to us Freepers who don’t live in Boston to tell us what the post was and why it was so controversial...

This was Barrak’s friend Deval Patrick who appointed this hack to a $175,000 no-show job to some quasi-public agency called HEFA.

This was a payback for her early support in Deval Patricks campaign.

She was bringing too much heat onto HEFA. Taxpayer’s started wondering what HEFA was and what do they do and do we need this agency?

The board was going to vote on removing her so she read the writing on the wall and left before the vote.

From HEFA’s website:
HEFA, the Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority, was created more than thirty years ago for one purpose: to help nonprofit organizations across the state to thrive and thereby improve the lives of citizens. We achieve this by helping hospitals, colleges and universities, cultural and research institutions, and human service providers secure low-cost, tax-exempt financing for important capital projects.

You would be surprised at how many of these quasi-public agencies infest the Northeast Corridor.

Over-run with Ivy leagers and politically connected they feast at the trough of government forever chasing down federal grants.

They exist to employee the unemployable or the over-educated and to provide them with a taxpayer funded opulent life style.

Anyone who has taken the 5:30 am Amtrak from Boston to New York has had to listen to these blowhards drone on and on about funding third world emerging economies or eco-friendly research funding.

These are some of the most pompous, self important, useless people on the face of the earth. They are John Kerry clones.

If HEFA was terminated tomorrow no one would notice.

to help nonprofit organizations across the state to thrive and thereby improve the lives of citizens...

The total recipe for a juicy political appointment.
