There was a program on the “History Channel” some time back about Yemen. In ancient times before Islam, the country was pretty advanced and had a sizable Christian and Jewish population.

There was a huge dam built sometime in the early history of Yemen but it is now just a relic in the desert.

Yemen may be the most virulently Islamic state.

The Himyarite Arabs, who were converted to Judaism and later to Christianity by wandering monks, were a thriving, pre-Islamic civilization based in Yemen. The Sabaeans also lived there, and the ruins of their capital Marib still stand today.

What a shame it’s now an Islamic state and a breeding ground for al-Qaida.

“In ancient times before Islam, the country was pretty advanced and had a sizable Christian and Jewish population.”
This statement could be made about nearly every Islamic country today.
