Protestors clash with police at anti-G20 demonstrations - 2nd Update

London - Angry protestors shouting "shame on you" and "storm the banks" clashed with police outside the Bank of England during anti-globalization demonstrations in London Wednesday. Some 4,000 demonstrators converged on the central bank in the City of London, where windows of banks and offices were smashed.

Police said 11 people had been arrested by lunchtime and riot police had been deployed.

At one point, several hundred demonstrators attempted to break through barriers to reach the heavily-guarded and boarded-up central bank building.

Windows at the Royal Bank of Scotland, which has been a key target for critics during the banking crisis, were smashed as violence escalated.

Police had earlier clashed with a small group of masked demonstrators, representing a diverse mix of anti-war campaigners, anti-poverty groups, anarchists and climate change protestors.

Thousands of officers shepherded protesters carrying banners proclaiming "Balls to the Banks" and "Punish the looters" while carrying effigies of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

Bankers leaning out of office windows taunted demonstrators down below by waving 10-pound notes at them, provoking a response of shouts and cheers.

Many bankers and office workers heeded security advice to "dress down" in sweaters and jeans, rather than the more customary suits and ties, to avoid being targeted.

"I am here to make sure that peace happens rather than war," said Mirthful Merryweather, a nurse among the protestors.

Christine Hickey, 64, said: "I'm just fed up with the bankers who have got away with taking all this money. People are losing jobs and their homes, and I'm fed up with it."

I bet that’s not even real blood. They probably put paint on themselves to symbolize the ‘brutality of capitalism’ or some such nonsense.

Well, FlyingEagle was there at the Bank of England earlier today. All they needed to add was tea, and it is the sort of message to government and banksters that needs to be communicated in the US. The protesters were mostly just regular people, distressed about having the government bail out bankers with massive cash injections to companies and bonuses to the morons who tanked the economy, while jobs are being lost, taxes are going up, savings and retirement pensions are evaporating, houses becoming worth less, etc. I was not worried about misbehavior of protesters, but the police were scary. The police definitely were in a mood for a fight and it looks like the peacefulness came to an end after I left.

Among those spotted among the crowd was the comedian Russell Brand, who said he was accompanying the marchers because he was interested to see why the protest was taking place

YUP>

Meg McCain adores this guy BTW

U.S. President Barack Obama reacts during a joint news conference with Britain’s Prime Minister Gordon Brown, unseen, at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London Wednesday April 1 2009. President Obama sought Wednesday to rally the world’s top and emerging powers to help cope with a global economic downturn, saying, ‘We can only meet this challenge together.’

Wrong. Conservatives should turn out in mass for a peaceful protest. Blockade Congress. Demand that the tax cheats be run out of government.

They list different "movements" that these rioters are associated with but NO ONE in the press calls them damned SOCIALISTS.

You know, it's just not a real protest without big stupid looking puppets. Good to see that the Euro-Anarchists are on the ball.
