Notre dame Appoints Law School Dean Donated To Obama and Pro Abortion!!

South Bend, IN (LifeNews.com) -- Adding insult to injury, the University of Notre Dame announced today the appointment of a new law school dean who made donations to pro-abortion candidates, including President Barack Obama. The Catholic college is already under intense criticism for inviting Obama to give its commencement speech.

On Wednesday, Notre Dame officials announced that Nell Jessup Newton, most recently chancellor and dean of the Hastings College of the Law at the University of California, has been appointed as the new law school dean.

Rev. John Jenkins, the UND president who has come under fire for inviting Obama and bestowing upon him an honorary degree, made the decision to appoint Newton.

However, Fundrace 2008, a web site devoted to identifying donors to political candidates, indicates Newton gave Obama's presidential campaign $2,300 during the first quarter of 2007.

Newton also gave $500 to pro-abortion Catholic presidential candidate John Kerry during the first quarter of 2004 in his race against pro-life President George W. Bush.

The campaign finance web site also lists Newton as giving $1,000 in 2008 to Congressional candidate Jackie Speier, who was endorsed by Emily's List. That is the pro-abortion group that only backs candidates who support partial-birth abortions and paying for abortions with taxpayer funds.

In its announcement, Jenkins praises Newton but makes no mention of her donations to pro-abortion candidates in opposition to the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church.

I keep saying,

if there are no earthly punishments by the Church,

they are enabling more of their followers to fall prey to this heresy.

Many of our friends and relatives are pro-abortion or indifferent. I get their attention by telling them about Obama supporting killing (murdering) a baby if it survives the abortion. Not many people support that.

For some reason, many people (including Catholics) assume that the Church is a monolithic autocracy in which the Pope can do whatever he wants --- period. This is not the case.

Notre Dame is not directly under Church governance at all, since it is incorporated separately and has its own Board of Trustees. In that sense, the Pope doesn't control Notre Dame any more than he controls Harvard. He is certainly not in a position to hire and fire University presidents.

He can't even instantly excommunicate somebody. There would have to be a violation of law, a "crime" so to speak. Obtaining an abortion, or being a material accomplice to an abortion, would be such a crime; but unfortunately, "giving honors to a powerful pro-abort s.o.b." is not actually listed as a crime under Canon Law.

ND's president, Fr. Jenkins, is personally under the CSC Father Superior in Rome. The Superior doesn't "run" Notre Dame either, since the CSC's don't own Notre Dame.

Who runs Notre Dame? The Board of Trustees.

However, that doesn't mean nobody can do nothin' ...

The Bishop can rescind their right to call themselves a Catholic University.

Moreover, Fr. Jenkins' Superior, Fr. Hugh Carey, could get Fr. Jenkins transfered outta there, simply by giving him another assignment. That's a possibility.

There's no guarantee that whoever replaced Fr. Jenkins would be any better. But he might have the fear-of-God put into him by realizing that any more bad publicity and he could be forced out, too.

And Fr. Jenkins could resign. So there's (in my estimation) three realistic possibilities: Bishop D'Arcy can revoke their right to call themselves a Catholic University, Fr. Carey can "reassign" (sack) Fr. Jenkins, and/or Fr. Jenkins could resign. Let's help this happen:

Contact Fr. Jenkins: Call him at 574.631.5000, fax him at 574.631.2770, write a personal email president@nd.edu, or mail your letter to 317 Main Building, Notre Dame, IN 46556

Very Rev. Hugh W. Cleary, C.S.C.
Superior General
Congregation of Holy Cross
Via Framura, 85
00168 Rome, Italy

Or e-mail him: contact@holycrosscongregation.org

And let us pray. With God all things are possible.

Blood pressure rising, head ready to explode, blood shooting from eyes............

I'm right there with you. Just came home from spending time in front of the abortion clinic, praying for all the mothers who show up there with their daughters. The Lord must weep precious tears as He watches what is happening in this nation---the cavalier attitude toward death and destruction---the total disregard for the lives He has created. These women are willingly allowing their own grandchildren to be killed!!! The devil has lied to them. The language of death has been clouded in "choice." And our leaders who should be taking a stand for what is right, are doing the devil's work instead.

This IS the twenty first century, women have the right to vote, to get jobs, to do whatever they want, after all this is America, and if for some reason a female of any age gets pregnant and decides she doesn't want the baby, well golllllllllllllllllllly, it's her body, she can do what she wants with her body and aborting a baby, well that's no big deal, who cares, it's just a fetus and we know that a fetus really isn't a baby now is it? so what's the big deal??? /SARC off

Blood shooting from eyes..............

I don't know. You mean involuntarily laicized? I don't know the ins and outs of the canons, but I suspect (this is just a guess) that there aren't technical grounds, and I don't think it would happen if his Father Superior vouches for him.

Now if he were directly ordered by his Father Superior to do something, and he refused, he could be (what's the term?) "exclaustrated" I think, which means, booted out of the CSC.

I hate these legalities. Yet I see why they are necessary, to keep GOOD priests from being bullied and victimized by corrupt superiors. So you can say I'm for all this procedural due process stuff, for the same reasons that St. Thomas More was opposed to depriving the Devil himself, or anyone else, of the protection of the Laws of England.

But at the same time, the letter kills; the Spirit gives life. We need an in-breaking of grace in people's souls. Oh! God!

And--- thinking of "canonical options" --- a bishop isn't just an canonical machine. He is a man. And he can act like a man. He could go and sit-in, personally block the stairs to the dais; he could conduct a teach-in on campus for 7 days prior to, or even concurrent with, the commencement ceremonies; he could make a grand entrance at the commencement, mitre, crozier and all, and accuse Obama to his face.

Who would stop him? Who would dare?

We need to (I need to) write to D'Arcy.

Aaargh.

The Church can’t afford to let the dust settle ... its job is to kick up dust right now to make it perfectly clear that the church has some boundaries that cannot be breached, especially by a priest and most especially at one of the most visible “Catholic” institutions in the USA.

Should the hierarchy let this pass, and then quietly axe Jenkins, it will have lost its credibility on this issue. The authority of the RCC as premier spokesmen on the issue of life will be lost, approximately forever.

Letting Obama speak at commencement, then axing Jenkins, would be no different than the RCC givng a wink and a nod to a woman walking into an abortion mill, then chastising her after her abortion, saying, ‘gosh, you shouldn’t have done that!’

However inadvertently, the NDU/Obama issue has become a point of no return for the RCC.

Devout Catholics must be feeling about like devout conservatives! Gosh, if you’re both Catholic and conservative you’re really having a bad day. Things just don’t seem right anymore. Maybe there is something to that 2012 end thingy.
