If you drank with them when they were still here, you should continue to do so out of loving respect.

In Arkansas? I think that’s the correct etiquette. Must have been the wrong brand - or she didn’t bring some more to share.

Well, Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding, maybe the lady had turned water into beer at a funeral. It was Arkansas after all.
To: Shermy
That’s the kind of funeral I want. BTT.
To: nothingnew
Is that fought or drank beer or both?

Seven, babe, it is in my last letter of instruction...

that all the life insurance money not spent on my cremation and headstone, is to go to buy beer and liquor for an eight day wake!
Considering how much booze I've consume over the past 60 plus years...
I figure I'll burn for about that long--
And, yes, all ya'll are invited! Some say, give the people what they want...
and they'll come!

We here in Arkansas demand you stop using the name “Redneck”. From here on we will be referred to as “Appalachian-Americans”. We find it “offensive”.

Must be bad manners there not to show up with the whole six-pack. No wonder there was a brawl, everyone fighting over one beer.
To: Steamburg
BTW, I and a friend played our guitars at the funerals, both of old friends of ours, and drank beer while we were doing it. No one objected as everyone knew the deceased wouldn't either.

This story has also been picked up by the Associate Press, and I "think" that we're still allowed to post links and just a few words from AP articles here, aren't we?
Ark. funeral wake turns into brawl over beer AP Texas News Chron.com - Houston Chronicle
Sindelar allegedly grabbed a man by the face, leaving scratch marks on his lower right cheek and causing him to bleed. Hall, the man's mother, then allegedly slapped Sindelar and kicked another woman in the chest.A sheriff's report claims Sindelar became "passively aggressive" with deputies and said that "no backwood country cop" was going to take her to jail.

“when i die, i also would much rather my family and friends celebrate the good times we had together, and celebrate life, while they can enjoy it.”
My mother died in 1981 of leukemia. She knew well in advance that she was dying and was at peace with it. She planned her own funeral including scriptures, songs, who she wanted there and who she did not want there. One of the things that was most important to her was that there be a party afterward — including 3 cheers — to celebrate her life and the knowledge that she was going to heaven.
I read once that one measure of a successful life is a standing room only funeral. I guess that would be ok but I’m my mother’s son... I just want there to be enough beer to go around at the after-party.

I highly recommend it, along with a glass of good whiskey. In fact some of my friends have specified it in their last wishes. I was simply asking for clarification as to which of the acts (drinking and or fighting) you had engaged in at the same funeral.
OTOH, I have found that some people do see it in bad taste to drink at the funeral of someone who has been killed by a drunk or died of cirrhosis of the liver.
