The charms of a wonderful woman and a beautiful city are hard to beat.
So much so that Barack Obama will snub his hosts after arriving in Prague this evening in favour of a romantic Saturday night dinner with his wife, Michelle.
The Czech Republic is a stopover on the US President's first tour of Europe because it currently holds the presidency of the European Union, which rotates every six months.
But rather than meet the country's conservative leaders, with whom the President has little in common and who have been rather rude about the United States recently, the Obamas have decided to spend their only night in Prague soaking up the atmosphere.
He requested a romantic dinner with a view of Prague, where they can eat the best Czech food, said a Czech government source. They have spent days trying to decide on the right restaurant. ....
President Klaus is understood to have invited the Obamas to dinner at Prague Castle, while Mr Topolánek, his rival, offered to take Mr Obama out to a traditional Czech pub. ....
Much to their discomfiture, Mr Obama has decided to meet both of them at a breakfast meeting tomorrow morning, before the EU-US summit attended by leaders from the 27 EU countries. Later, Mr Obama plans to spend time with Václav Havel, the playwright who led the country out of communism and whom the US President greatly admires. He will probably get as much time as both of the current leaders put together.

What, has he gone to Prague only to snub the EU president?
And what do you bet they’ve already updated the Clintons’ plans: eight years for Barack, and then a turn at some point for Michelle?
Please tell me why the U.S. president should kowtow to a country that has recently been incredibly abusive about the U.S. AND is currently head of the European Union, which is totally NOT the way we want America to be? If this had been W or Reagan, you’d be praising him for snubbing these folks.
I’m so glad he and the missus were able to take this wonderful (and free!) vacation together.
I caught that, too...good find.
That statement can be applied to virtually every European country in recent memory. I'm surprised he didn't take Michelle for a personal visit to the Tower of London.
As for myself, the "Cabinet War Rooms" was my favorite stop during my last visit to London (five years ago).
They have soul food in the Czech Republic????
Are you being intentionally dense? Do you know who Vaclav Klaus, Czech head of state, is, and what he outspokenly believes?
Hint: It's not what Obama, or the Euro elite, believe, and that's why he's being snubbed -- intentionally.
"The EU's ruling elite view President Klaus, a distinguished academic economist, with a mixture of bewilderment, hatred and contempt. As his country's prime minister, he applied to join the EU in the days after the fall of Communism in the 1990s. But now Klaus is alone among European leaders in expressing openly Eurosceptic views, not least about the Lisbon Treaty, which the Czech parliament has yet to ratify.
Klaus was an outspoken dissident under the Communist regime, and he has come to regard the EU as dangerously anti-democratic. But he compounds this sin with highly sceptical views on global warming, on which he recently published a book, Blue Planet in Green Shackles. He likens the extreme environmentalism favoured by the EU to Communism, as a serious threat to democracy, freedom and prosperity.
No I would not. Reagan was never rude to any leader.
Obama and his silly wife are disgraceful posers.
“to a country that has recently been incredibly abusive about the U.S”
How ?
“AND is currently head of the European Union, which is totally NOT the way we want America to be?”
LOL ! So what in your opinion the President of the US should do visiting China or Saudi Arabia ?
And now.... for the important news of the day
you didn’t have any “RAKI”(turkish stuff) did ya’?start sipping that in early afternoon and then you’d be ready.......’nuff said
IOW a bootie call. (at least it’s with his wife)
Has he spent an entire day in the White House?
