North Korea launches rocket over Japan (UN: NO NEW sanctions)
Rueters ^ | April 5, 2009 | Reuters

Posted on 04/04/2009 10:55:44 PM PDT by FocusNexus

The United States, Japan and South Korea will view the launch as a violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution passed in 2006 after Pyongyang carried out the nuclear test and other missile tests.

That resolution, number 1718, demands North Korea "suspend all activities related to its ballistic missile program."

U.N. Security Council diplomats have told Reuters on condition of anonymity that no country was considering imposing new sanctions but the starting point could be discussing a resolution for the stricter enforcement of earlier sanctions.

Both Russia and China, the latter the nearest the reclusive North has to a major ally, have made clear they would block new sanctions by the Council, where they have veto power.

So why should anyone be afraid of the UN?

And we are ceding our sovereignty to the UN.

CNN said Obama will make a speech in Prague, that they will carry live, at 4 am EDT.

Kim Yong Il is rolling on the floor laughing about the world not having the will to stop him.

Bolton: Obama Needs Additional ‘Schooling’

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,512585,00.html

BOLTON: I don’t think the U.N.’s going to do much of anything. I think it’s very unlikely they’ll get a stiff sanctions resolution. The sanctions that were imposed in 2006, when North Korea tested missiles and a nuclear device, obviously haven’t not stopped them.

Obama released a statement:

“The launch today of a Taepo-dong 2 missile was a clear violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1718, which expressly prohibits North Korea from conducting ballistic missile-related activities of any kind,” he said. “With this provocative act, North Korea has ignored its international obligations, rejected unequivocal calls for restraint, and further isolated itself from the community of nations.”

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/04/05/AR2009040500021.html

Considering that nobody will actually do ANYTHING about it, N, Korea won again. What about Obama’s “charm” — wasn't he supposed to make everyone, including the Kim Jong Il do his every bidding?

This launch is an embarrassment to the UN AND the US.

Yep. Kim Mentally Ill Slong is really scared of Obama, Holbrooke, Hillary and all the rest of the Obamites.

I’m sure he is quaking in his boots. More like shaking with laughter in his jacuzzi.

UN-Obama. Both useless pieces of crap.

Another nasty letter, eh? This is absolutely BEYOND ridiculous!

Can’t wait to see what Obama said. I’m guessing the speech is over now (it’s 4 a.m. Central Time now). I’m going to go look for the transcription of it... Even though it’ll probably make me ill reading it!

CNN said Obama will make a speech in Prague, that they will carry live, at 4 am EDT.

First, they had to wake him up to tell him what happened and now the American people have to wait 9 hours to hear from him on a vital security issue?

With Obama at the White House, “UN demands” is now a meaningless phrase. He believed, with Chirac, that UN demands for Iraq, 17 resolutions, should be “just words.”

Like I said (on other pre-launch threads) Japan has done absolutly nothing.

The UN is a barrier against action. The language of the resolution is the international equivalent to telling your child you would never lay a hand on them and then threatening a spanking

Why should any dictator be afraid of “sanctions?”

When have they ever worked in the past?

In fact, “sanctions” usually strengthen a dictator.
