A simple analogy that answers the question, "What's so bad about socialism?"

An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said ok, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too; so they studied little.. The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F. The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great; but when government takes all the reward away; no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that....

The high school graduating class of 2009 is the largest class in over 20 years. Unfortunately, many of them are seeing Obama and his socialist policies through naive eyes and asking, "What's so bad about socialism anyway?".

It is our duty to make sure that every single one of them understands exactly how damaging the misguided utopian idea of equality really is. Please share this analogy with them and also watch/share this incredibly informative video on the vitally important civics lesson we were never taught... the true American form of government, a Republic.

As long as they don’t HAVE anything to be taken away, they’ll never know why socialism is so bad. Which is why these policies work so well with the “yutes” of the civilized world. By the time they’ve been enslaved and lost what little they’ve made for themselves, it’s too late.

Unfortunately, it’s not just the kids who view socialism this way. I have friends who believed that obama’s proposed health care reforms would really bring increased coverage and better health care across the board, for example. People will continue to see what they want to see. When it doesn’t work out as they expect, they’ll probably just find an explanation they like...it won’t be obama’s fault.

What the younger generation hasn’t had a chance to see, or have not been taught, is the fact that in socialism, the only ones that prosper are the ones at the top of the food chain. They have not been taught the fact that no matter how hard they work or how much money they earn, it will be shared with those that don’t work. It will be shared with other countries that offer little to the world. All the kids are being taught today is how to be nicey, nicey. They don’t see their future or their right to be what ever they want to be.

You are right, most American adults need to hear this message too...

Not sure if you saw it or not, but there was an excellent article posted a day or so about why Universal Healthcare will be a disaster. Here it is just in case:

Don't think for a minute that we have an easy battle ahead of us, folks!

Look at what an otherwise-normal-looking man handed me outside of a WAL MART Last weekend:

I call this phenomenon “The Barneyfication of Western Society”. You can thank the do-gooders who created Barney the Purple Dinosaur for beginning this process in today’s graduating class when they were little wee kids, and the soft-headed dolts teaching in state schools for continuing their education by remaining true to the Principles of Barney.

The Barney-fication of Western Society is nearly complete. And now they have a President that has been created in their own image, and in their own likeness.

“It will be shared with other countries that offer little to the world”

At the upcoming Tea Party here, I think I am going to carry a poster sign that reads: NOT a citizen of the world.

If socialism is so good why are people fleeing China and Cuba, Viet Nam and Venezuela? Why do people risk their lives to escape socialism? Why do the borders of socialist countries try to keep people from escaping?
BECAUSE
Socialists are captive to their governments. They are government property. They are not FREE to make decisions about their well being or future.

Don’t be afraid to speak out loudly against the socialist movement. Don’t let the socialists dictate the course of conversation or limit discussion. We can control the dialogue. But we have to stand our ground and offer absolutely NO COMPROMISE!

If I had small children today, I would place them in private schools that stressed individuality, religious and moral values. One such type of school is good Military Acadamey’s. I attended a Military Acadamey during the Korean War. Believe me, they forced you to make decisions and then held you responsible for those decisions.

A good analogy.

I doubt it ever happened in fact, as after the first or second markdown the good students would have rebelled.

It also doesn’t work if you grade on a curve, which is essentially what socialism tries to accomplish. Everybody still gets a C, regardless of how poor the work becomes, or even if nobody shows up for class anymore.

It’s a shame that just 20 years ago eastern European countries came out from socialism, revealing a population that did not know how to work for reward or appreciate the up-side of capitalism.

These people mostly missed the freebies given by gov’t that now had to be earned so they elected the former communists back into power, resulting in ever greater economic collapse.

I wouldn’t trust either of them if I saw them hanging around near a playground full of kids. In fact, I’d call the cops.

Socialism appeals most to the same people who want to share everything equally; you know, the folks who didn’t bring anything to the table.

Unfortunately, the government fooled with the bell curve that allowed the students in the middle to believe that if they worked hard, they could get to the top. Regulations on small business created a class where some got A's and an increasing number got D's and F's. Few got B's.

Look at environmental regulations, for instance. The permit fees and the studies required can be taken in stride by a large company with a staff scientists and attorneys. It makes it prohibitive for the small guy to operate. (Look at all the small forest holders that we have completely priced out of being able to do a harvest plan on their land.) The new global warming tax will create more of the same.

Return taxes to small business and achieve more with incentive and technological assistance than regulation and we can return to a robust middle class fostered by creativity, inventiveness and entrepreneuralism.
