Q Sonja Sagmeister from a little country, Austria, from Austrian Television. Mr. President, you said you came here to learn and to listen. So a quite personal question -- what did you learn from your personal talk with the European leaders? And did this change in a certain way your views on Europe and its politics?
PRESIDENT OBAMA: It's an interesting question. I had already formed relationships with many of them. ... There's a lot of -- I don't know what the term is in Austrian -- wheeling and dealing -- and, you know, people are pursuing their interests, and everybody has their own particular issues and their own particular politics.

Note Senator Obama was on a Cmte dealing with NATO. I would think one could pick up a little knowledge there even if they just listened...
He probably thinks there is an Australian language too.
What an idiot!
I’m sure there will be SNL sketches on this./sarc
If the TOTUS said there is an Austrian language, how can you disagree with the President?
And Edelweiss is a law firm.
If Bush had ever said anything this stupid, it would have led the news.
57 states.

“Just who is the power behind the throne, so to speak.”
The teleprompter must have been down. Question is; who writes for the teleprompter - which is sort of your question as well.
President Clueless strikes again!
There is. It's very similar to Austrian, except you add "mate" at the end of each sentence. Sorta like Canadian, which is like English but you add an "eh" at the end of the sentences.
Hitler had a TERRIBLE time taking over Germany since they didn’t speak Austrian like he did...
My apologies...didn't intend to impune the integrity of something so well read!
Austria’s greatest accomplish in the 20th Century was making everyone believe that Hitler was a German and Beethoven was Austrian. Now they’ve gone one further and convinced Obama they speak a whole nuther language. (Yeah, Austrian dialects aren’t standard German, but for the most part neither are German dialects.)
the power behind the throne, so to speak.
I have been lookin’ for somewhere to use that “O Brother” quote!
"What languages do austria speak?
In: Non-English Languages and Cultures [Edit categories]
Austrian people speak Austrian, which is very close to German. So they can probably speak and understand German without any difficulty.
What’s next?
He will ask: “Austrian??.....Well, lets put another shrimp on the barby!!”
There is a huge cult out there, not only Obamaniacs, but people in the media and in politics, who have subscribed to the idea that Obama is a genius with one of the highest IQs in history.
This in spite of the fact that no proof has ever been put forward to back this up. There is no metric to prove it, no IQ test. He has kept his grades secret and the media forbid any publishing of his transcripts.
To the contrary, there is much anecdotal evidence that he is stupid - very stupid. Think 57 states, the Austrian language, his ignorance when the teleprompter is gone.
People wonder how a cultured, educated nation like Germany could have fallen under the spell of a megalomaniac like Hitler whose “Mein Kampf” was treated like a bible in spite of the idiotic stuff in it. Well just look around you, it’s happening here, and for the media and inside the Beltway elites it’s just fine with them.
When happens this tyranny’s Kristalnacht? They have already come for the executives, and people did nothing. They have already come for the unborn, and people (even Notre Dame) did nothing. They are coming for the talk radio hosts and their listeners. How soon till they come for you?
Heil Obama.
Doe a Deer...The Sound Of Music Ping...LOL
You know, its embarrassing its embarrassing when Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe, and all we can say, Merci beaucoup. Right?--Barack Hussein Obama
Who is mocking who now, Barry? Austrian, a language...even this embarassing American knows better than that!!
Same language, just a different accent. Also, only the australians have kangaroos.
There almost is. :-)
Soros
#23 for quote
A better source would be the CIA Factbook, which says:
Languages: German (official nationwide) 88.6%, Turkish 2.3%, Serbian 2.2%, Croatian (official in Burgenland) 1.6%, other (includes Slovene, official in Carinthia, and Hungarian, official in Burgenland) 5.3% (2001 census)
Oh my... That’s news to me.
Did someone say “Harvard”?
Dan Quayle said something just as dumb, i.e.learning Latin before visiting Latin American countries, and it led the news and made skit after skit on comedy shows and late night TV.
Hussein is a special olympian.

Austrian is a language like American is a language (which is to say, it isn't.) It's at best a dialect.
My sources?

or, if you trust the CIA as much as anybody else should (which is to say, not at all) how about the Austrian Embassy to the U.S.A.:
Official Languages: German, locally also Slovene, Hungarian, and Croatian
Anything that starts with "Wiki" should probably not be trusted implicitly where His Ohness is concerned.

THE OFFICIAL LANGUAGE OF AUSTRIA ISN'T AUSTRIAN... It is GERMAN.
[It's sort of like Spanish — In Mexico if you speak Castillian Spanish (the form spoken in Spain, and taught in most schools), Mexicans will be able to understand you, but many of the words are a bit different when you learn MEXICAN Spanish. But, it's ALL called “Spanish”.]
Wiki must have wrote that last night to cover obama’s rear.
Came here just for that quote.
So the option is we either have a president who sounds dumb but is relatively smart or one who is dumb as a post but sounds smart?
I find that i am asking myself for the eleventy gazillion’th time...
can you imagine what would have happened if GW Bush had done/said this?
Obama’s problem is that he only speaks the “Mutha” language.
See my post right below yours. Same info. different source. :)
WIKI is probably the WORST thing that has ever happened for anyone interested in true FACTS. The information found on WIKI (most times) simply reflects the sad, sad, state of education.
I bet he knows the Term in Mexican
“Heil Obama.”
There was the USA to save the world from Hitler. There is no one to save the world from Obama.
Just FYI: The person you are relying on for that answer, also thinks Antarctica recently had a name change, and that the word “Eleventh” has 4 syllables...
Best to check your sources when relying on an unknown person to supply your facts...

It's Austrian German, also called Austrian. The difference is more than accent, apparently. There's also a language in Switzerland known as Swiss. I suspect it's German Swiss, but I'd have to look it up. ;-)
This is pathectic.
not hussein. - I expect that from a chicago hack.
I mean that the media would have had this on for weeks if Bush said it...
See post #37, the guy who wrote that answer at WIKI isn’t someone I’d rely on... :) LOL
