Turkey isn’t a free country. You can be put into prison for publicly endorsing Christianity. Why do we want them to be part of the EU?

Why? So that Islamist radicals can pour into Turkey from Iran, Iraq and Syria and then, since a citizen of one E.U. country is a citizen of all E.U. countries, after a trip to the local I.D. forger, the Islamist radicals can pour into Western Europe.

This idea is as utterly asinine as France or Germany publicly supporting making Afghanistan the 51st U.S. state so that anybody with an Afghan driver's license can fly directly to the U.S. without a visa or a passport.

There is a silver lining to all of this.

Remember the saying, " A conservative is a liberal that has been mugged by reality"?

Well, the E.U. has just been mugged by the reality of how abysmally naive, inexperienced and completely out of his league Obama is in regards to foreign policy.

The U.S. media won't do it's job in holding Obama accountable for anything. The European media, out of a sense of pure self-preservation, may start doing just that..

agreed this is asinine, but to stay realistic. Obamas comments have as much impact on EU member politics as Europes comments would have on afghanistan becomming a US state. result Zero... no one really cares because it´s none of our buisness. but to be somehow fair wanting turkey becoming a EU member has been the goal of US forreign politics for a long time. i don´t know why, but i remember bush saying the same thing about turkey and the EU. but then again this has really no impact on anything.
