I had hoped it was a mistake, but I have seen $50,000 mentioned in the BBC, El Pais, El Mundo... What a shame!

I read yesterday that Italy sent $1,000,000 worth of medical supplies for Katrina!

From the news I heard, they are currently refusing "all" aid

Spain has people already in Italy, helping with the rescue efforts.

I don’t trust this guy, Zer0, any further than I could throw a grand piano with both hands, which is less far than when I was younger.

You know, I was going to say that I’d bet that all of the aid that Italy sent for Katrina ended up being wasted/unused. And then I thought, well, maybe I should check and see if I can find out something about it before I put my foot in my mouth.

So I found the following, fwiw.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/28/AR2007042801113.html

It claims that all of Italy’s gracious aid was spoiled and/or unused, and that the State Department didn’t want to tell Italy. The moral of the story? It pays to be a cynic, and our gov really is as inefficient and wasteful as we believe it to be.

Then by all means we should help them as much as we can. Maybe we can start by letting those banks who want to give bailout money back do that so we have have more cash on hand for aid.

>>How much did they send for Katrina and Rita?<<

That was mentioned yesterday and MyTwoCopperCoins found an answer. See reply #75 on the top thread.

We did sent enough troups( maybe even more than Great Britain..!
We sent troupes anywhere there was a need of our help: Iraq, Gulf war, Bosnia, Kossovo, Lebanon. Mozambico, Somalia etc etc...
Many Italian soldiers died. too.
Americans have been always friends of the Italian..in this sad occasion too..!
Your goverment..however...was not ( at least this time) at the same level of the Americans..that we know to be fundamentally ..gentle persons.
Personally the trust and the friendship I feel about you still intact.
