Montana is trying to be the refuge of choice for the John Galt crowd. Where can you go to get away from all of this silliness? Montana!

Anyone know if there is somewhere warm to live in Montana?

Depends on how much you want to pay for heat.

A house with a furnace and functioning thermostat.

I don’t care about warm (various forms of fire tend to produce warm) but where is there any work?

Speaking as someone to the south of MT, but only barely, here is your answer:

No, there are no warm places in Montana. There are only “cold” and “slightly less cold.”

The cold, I’d bet you could get used to.

The wind... I’m not so sure.

This is sort of out of the book “Molon Labe” by Boston T. Party. But in the book it was Wyoming, I highly recommend it to all Freepers.

The southern part of Montana extends to the Gulf of Mexico.

We have an old saying here in Montana.

We have 10 months of winter and 2 months of really lousy snowmobiling.

Its a matter of what you consider cold. I grew up there. The same area where “A River Runs Through It” was filmed. You don't fight the weather you respect it. When the spring comes you appreciate it more. It is a beautiful place when the weather is good but can be unforgiving during winter. You just have to adjust your mindset in the winter. Yes it snows, sometimes a lot. The temperature can be cold. I remember going to school when the high was -13F and in later years talking to my mother when she said it was -40/45 F and the wind chill dropped it to -60 to -70. It breeds a tougher hardier person that is more self reliant

It’s cold in the winter and freaking HOT in the summer in the whole state.

I've visited West Yellowstone, MT and Gardiner, MT. In the Spring, you can see the remnants of the winter snow in West Yellowstone. It is piled to the roof tops between buildings that are unoccupied all winter. The airport is closed during the winter. I don't think warm is necessary part of the overall calculation.

There is not somewhere there is sometime. You want a warm spot? Arizona patriots will need to win over their state. Until then, it's Montana.

I did some backtracking and ran across your post looking for gun toting country in warmer climes. FWIW, there's been similar legislation introduced in the Texas legislature. Texas has some large metro areas that might negatively influence our representatives, and there's just a single sponsor on the bill so I don't have a clue how it might work out. I'm supporting it nonetheless:

Texas Legislature Online

BTW, there's still a little room left in Texas.
