Defense officials say that one of the pirates holding an American captive fired an automatic weapon when the hostage tried to swim to safety.
Defense officials say it's not clear whether the pirate fired at the fleeing hostage, or into the air. The officials spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the sensitive, unfolding operation.

From what I understand there are only 4 captors holding this guy. A SEAL team would make short work of these fools.
Take the fight to them...terminate their situation with extreme prejudice and send the message.

Obama will not let the Seals rescue the hostage and has not even allowed them to enter the water. Instead, Obama has assigned the FBI to negotiate a settlement with the terrorists.
So why the eff wasn’t the Phalanx released to turn the lifeboat into toothpicks?

As soon as he jumped in the water at night the Navy or SEALs should have iced the pirates.
The Navy probably could have done it but O, the Congressional Black Caucus and the Dems will never allow the Somalis to be harmed.
This happened in BlackHawk Down. The Army was denied tanks as backups before Blackhawk Down because the CBC told Clinton NO NO NO tanks could be used against Africans.

This is in keeping with the leftist doctrine that terrotism is a law enforcement issue, not a military one.
Maybe they should send Lon Horiuchi, from the FBI standoff with the Weaver family. At least Lon wasn’t afraid to take a shot with a sniper rifle ... at a woman ... holding a baby.
This is what Obama, fellow Muslims (Saudis), the left and CBS/CNN/MSNBC/ABC/et al want. Not a spectacle but a humiliation.

Cuz the hostage was probably only a few feet from the boat. Also, any action has probably got to be approved by Our Dear Leader before being carried out.
Personally I like: Night. Fog. Seals with rebreathers under the boat. Flash bang grenade tossed in. Kill the pirates. Rescue the hostage. And tell the world that the pirates are missing.
