Cornyn applauds Obama on immigration reform
Houston Chronical ^ | 4-9-9 | Staff?

Here's what Cornyn said about the Obama White House's decision to re-open the public dialogue on immigration:

"I applaud President Obama's commitment to addressing comprehensive immigration reform this year, and stand ready to work with him to produce a product that represents the best interests of America, including respect for the rule of law, national security and economic security.

"Comprehensive, common-sense immigration reform remains a top priority for me. Any legislation must protect our borders, promote economic prosperity in Texas and throughout the United States, and be consistent with our American values of compassion, family and opportunity."

What does this mean?

Never had any reason to trust Cornyn.

You could not get the man to give a direct answer to a direct question if his life depended on it.

I've asked Cornyn what he means. Why don't you?

Sounds like he is sticking his finger in 0's eye. At least I hope so.

Yep, he and Kay Bailey are useless as teets on a boar-hog.

They both voted for the first $700B bailout. NEVER FORGET.

Let me guess? Amnesty? Millions of Americans are out of work. Illegal immigration and Obama are bankrupting the country. We better be ready to fight this like the Alamo.

You can fax for free plus numbers to call. They helped stop the last amnesty. Everyone thinks we will lose this time but I think maybe not. A lot of unemployed Americans may finally wake up.

I believe that Cornyn is positioning himself to counter an amnesty bill with solutions designed to seal the border. If I recall, he was an ardent opponent of the first amnesty bill. Here’s more:

It means whatever your particular biases want it to mean, in the fine tradition of political speechification. Look at the record, not the words.

"...and be consistent with our American values of compassion, family and opportunity."

Good grief - stop with the "compassionate conservatism" aka socialism/amnesty/communism, etc!

I can see where this is headed. All the more reason to continue to throw his “vote for me” letters in the trash.

Cornyn also supported the North American Union and the NAFTA Superhighway...so I would not be surprised that he will waffle on illegal aliens

If the GOP does not go 100% against illegal alien amnesty...I will not waste my vote on them anymore. I am tired of any politician who values the rights of illegal aliens over the rights of American citizens. This is anti-American treason

He was “ardent” only with a lot of “encouragement” in my view.

I hope that this is posturing for sealing the border because we are being over run down here. Everywhere I look.

Seal the border first, stop the influx (the economy has made no change that I can see), get them out then do what the law says.

You left out the “give me money” part followed only then by “vote for me”.

The why is left out.

Yes, this is the tip-off, not the prattle about security. Sounds like Cornyn has been getting an earful from the landscapers and chicken pluckers.
