As of mid-afternoon, a line of tornadic thunderstorms was moving through eastern Tennessee and northern Alabama. At least one tornado touched down in Murfreesboro, Tenn. killing at least 2 people and injuring 13 others. 3 neighborhoods were heavily damaged and an elementary school had its roof destroyed. As of 2:25 P.M. CDT, Interstate 24 in central Tennessee was backed up near Murfreesboro due to a tractor-trailor crash possibly caused by the tornado.
Many tornado warnings remain in effect from south-central Kentucky through central Tennessee and now, northern Alabama. These powerful thunderstorms will shift to far eastern Tennessee and northern Georgia this evening. This includes Augusta, Ga., where the Masters Golf Tournament is currently underway.

Being in northwestern NC, east of the mountains, I was hoping the Appalachians would break this up as far as we’re concerned, but looks like it’s coming up and around from the southwest. So, we’re going to see some of this. Probably after dark, too. Not looking forward to it.
Check out your shelter or shelters.
Thirty minutes ago we had bright sunshine. We are now completely cloud covered and the breeze is ‘freshening’. Appears the front is now reaching upper East Tennessee.
Got a nice little hand crank/solar NOA weather radio from LL Bean for Christmas, so it might be put to use for the first time. I have a hall half bath that’s not on any external wall and no windows, so that’s where I’ll go, with several freaked out dogs, if need be. Only had to do that twice before. I think the dogs can hear it well before I can, or maybe the pressure change affects them more.
We're by the river and the water table's about six inches below ground level, so no basement. We'll just have to sit in the hall closet. Gonna be crowded in there with all the dogs . . . .
Isn’t Accuweather Joe Bastardi’s company? I would pay no attention to his forecasts.
I am 40 miles SE of Murfreesboro. We have been in our shelter all afternoon. It was really scary.
Looks to me like most of the bad stuff is going to be going north of Atlanta.
Glad you made it through ok. Do you actually have a dedicated shelter with reinforced walls, a storm cellar, something in a basement? I’m curious. Nearly put one in myself, after the Stoneville tornado in NC, about a decade ago.
Sounds like it’s starting to fire up here in NC, southwest of me, three reports of tornadic rotation and large hail, Montgomery and Moore Counties, headed toward the town of Denton.
Or you could follow Ohio tornado protocol:
1. Make popcorn
2. Grab lawn chairs and a video camera
3. Improvise a neighborhood block party
LOL!
We were going to head to the Braves game, I’m undecided. I don’t want to get stuck at Turner Field should things get ugly. Decisions, decisions.
I live in Roswell and we are on our way back from vacation. Would anyone please let me know how bad it is now? Typing from my phone.
Relax, watch for some wind and heavy rain at best.
Thanks! Our ETA is about 9:30pm and listening to the radio is no help. Freepers rule!
