I think she would have had to have been resident in the US five years after her 18th birthday. I know that the wife of an American soldier stationed in Germany came without orders to live with him and gave birth to their child. She had a devil of a time getting her child a passport. Of course under German law, which is law of the blood, the child was not a German either. So the child was stateless. I think it required a private bill to get the child status. Either that or someone found a loophole. It was in the Stars and Stripes for some time. What complicates all this, though, is that Obama’s mother was married to an Indonesian citizen, and MAY have alienated herself. Did Obama ever hold an Indonesian passport?
