Yeah, I know that there are those who like to depend on the intent and purpose of the authors of these laws and amendments, but there’s a quote from one of our Supreme Court Justices who says that the “intent” means *absolutely nothing* to the Supreme Court (at least to that one justice, you might say, since he said it).
That was posted here, on Free Republic, as a quote. I wish I had copied it down and kept it, but I didn’t think it was necessary to do so. Someone (a FReeper) did post it here and documented who said it (which Justice...)...
So..., that’s for whatever it’s worth...
But over the years things have changed. For example, when I lived in Germany as a military dependent (1960), we were told that if our mothers gave birth, their children would not be eligible to be POTUS. They would be considered citizens of Germany and the US. The US, at the time, didnt consider dual citizenship many pregnant wives went back to the US to give birth.
