Actually, your take on this is also wrong, just as socalpubie is wrong.

Under American LAW, it is possible to be BORN a US citizen even if born outside the United States. Obama, however, had ONLY ONE citizen parent, and she was not old enough to automatically pass along citizenship, of Obama was born outside the US.
