WASHINGTON (AP) — True to form, President Barack Obama is striking a cautious, low-profile public stance as the piracy crisis plays out. As the situation changes by the hour, Obama advisers say the new commander in chief is being kept abreast of the developments, including Capt. Richard Phillips' foiled escape attempt Friday. But the president has yet to say a word in public about the standoff, now three days old. The approach is quintessential Obama, who as a candidate and now as president has tended to let tenuous dramas unfold without remark unless he absolutely must, lest his words or actions adversely influence a precarious situation. "I like to know what I'm talking about before I speak," Obama said pointedly last month when a reporter questioned why it took him several days to express outrage over the big bonuses American International Group doled out while receiving federal bailout money.

“Obama: “Can I just vote ‘present’?”

If Ears could find the ‘Chicken Button’ in the Oval Office, he would, just as he did in the Senate.

Someone please tell me Obama has made an official statement, like out of his own mouth/teleprompter, promising that the pirates’ endeavour will not be successful or rewarded. I won’t hold my breath. This has turned into a cluster of literally global proportions, and our “president” is being “apprised” as he figures out who to invite to cocktail parties.

Yeah, well, he's the P R E S I D E N T of the United States now and it's high damn time he has something to say to the pirates...and Islamist state sponsors...about the fact they boarded a US flagged ship in international waters.

If he doesn't kill AT LEAST 1000 of them, terror and chaos will erupt in the world.

I understand that the Navy destroyer was as much as a mile away from the lifeboat containing the pirates and hostage. If true it should have been closer and could have/should have blown the pirates to bits the moment the brave and resourceful captain distanced himself from it. The likely conclusion is that it was under orders (from guess who) not to fire under any circumstances. As is usually the case, inaction leads to a much more costly and complicated situation.

Sooner or later, yes.

As in,

“We’re going to find out, sooner or later,

If Abdul will pray, to a smoking crater.”

But not until we have lost entire cities.

What a load of poop.

Although this wasn't an attack on our sovereignty, the pirates did take U.S citizens hostages in international waters. This is a serious international incident and should be dealt with by the Commander in Chief, not his minions.

Travis McGee is right - he's once again, voting present.

I feel really sorry for the family of this kidnapped captain. I can’t imagine the pain of knowing that the life of your loved one is dependent upon this clueless d-bag who is faking his way through the most important job in the world. As that colonel said on O’Reilly tonight, Obama is the dog who caught the car and has no f*ing clue what to do next.

Wipe out the pirate ports, you wipe out the pirates.

I can just hear the wails from the Leftist press: But oh the loss of "innocent" life!

"But oh the loss of "innocent" life! "

It should be spun as an educational reform.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said, "We are bringing to bear a number of our assets, including naval and FBI, in order to resolve the hostage situation and bring the pirates to justice.""

The greatness of a nation is judged by the virtue of its freedom and the integrity of its authority. There was a time when our government recognized law enforcement was to implement force to bring criminality within the nation to justice, while the military was to bring foreign criminality of international law to justice.

The FBI has no jurisdiction outside our sovereign nation, but the Navy under the DoD does have authority to defend the sealanes of communication from foreign enemies of the Constitution.

When the Secretary of State fails to separate those authorities, she dishonors the virtue of American freedom from foreign power and manifests a lack of integrity in promoting her authority.

Isn’t this the same crap the Clinton’s pulled in Yemen with the USS Cole “investigation”? Bring in the FBI who have no jurisdiction there.

That’s what the CIA is for...
