WASHINGTON (AP) — True to form, President Barack Obama is striking a cautious, low-profile public stance as the piracy crisis plays out. As the situation changes by the hour, Obama advisers say the new commander in chief is being kept abreast of the developments, including Capt. Richard Phillips' foiled escape attempt Friday. But the president has yet to say a word in public about the standoff, now three days old. The approach is quintessential Obama, who as a candidate and now as president has tended to let tenuous dramas unfold without remark unless he absolutely must, lest his words or actions adversely influence a precarious situation. "I like to know what I'm talking about before I speak," Obama said pointedly last month when a reporter questioned why it took him several days to express outrage over the big bonuses American International Group doled out while receiving federal bailout money.

Cowards usually do this.

Translated: The polling hasn't come back yet to tell him how to react.

Critics say US should attack Somali pirates’ land bases

Is it time to replace bluewater policing with tactics of Jefferson, who defeated the Barbary pirates on land?

Maybe he should just go over there, get on TV for all the world to see and apologize for our arrogance That will put an end to it. Oh wait...

...I’m suprised that this incident didn’t coincide with Obama making a public apology to Blackbeard.

Barry could leave resolution to the discretion of the commander(s) on the scene who might have the courage to act that he lacks. He could then take the credit if events played out well. But alas, he would also have to take responsibility if they went awry. Thus he is frozen in his tracks.

Think of it, he couldn't even just make a simple and appropriate denunciation of the Aqua-terrorists! Would that have been so GD hard? So in other words he is giving the Aqua-terrorists the impression that what they are doing is ok.

Sheesh if the lips of the media were any more firmly planted on Obama's butt they'd all be dead of ASSphyxiation.

Although this wasn't an attack on our sovereignty,

What? A US ship on international waters with US citizens aboard? It's an act of war- it ain't robbing a 7-11 as Hillary would like to define it.

The correct response is to attack the province from which these pirates hail, and burn it to the ground. "Next?"

Or, I'm dumber than any 12 random stumps and maybe it will all go away.

What about the UN? Wasn’t this a UN Mission...we are such wusses.

Perhaps we can obtain a UN resolution condemning the pirates' actions. No doubt, that would fill them with unimaginable terror.

Or, if "condemn" is just too strong of a word for the niceties of diplomatese and UN-speak, we could at least seek a resolution expressing a moderate degree of "concern." (Provided, of course, that Russia and China don't veto it in the Security Council.)

Or...well, something. Anything.

Not to worry the french US Senator “Jon” Kerri is planning to hold hearings on this once the Easter break is over - surely (since he once served in Viet Nam), Jon will come to obama’s rescue ..?

Although this wasn't an attack on our sovereignty...

That apparently would have been the case if one of King Abdullah's ships had been hijacked.

The spin I heard on FOX tonight was that it’s merely piracy and the POTUS has more important things to do and to address it would elevate these criminals.

He seemed annoyed when asked about it. He couldn’t even express concern for the US citizen being held hostage and congratulate the crew for their actions in regaining control of their ship!

Zero is un-freaking-believable!!!
