Right. The source document is a PDF file, not an HTML page.

I am not debating the benefits of the format, I am stating simply that linking directly to a pdf file is a bad idea - for numerous reasons.

You are entitled to your opinion. I do not happen to agree with it.

However if you think dropping a link to something that will stop most computers dead cold for 30-90 seconds if they don’t already have acrobat open is a good idea, then by all mean, be that guy.

Even with FR's "You have selected a link to an external website" intermission, the page opens in only 8 seconds on my three year old PC. If someone's PC is taking 90 seconds to open a PDF file, then there are other non-Acrobat issues involved.

"PDF" stands for several different things, apparently. I've never known it to mean anything other than Portable Document Format, though.
