Sutton defends charging border agents
SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS ^ | 4-13-09 | GUILLERMO CONTRERAS

Posted on 04/14/2009 3:05:51 PM PDT by dynachrome

Outgoing U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton said Monday he still believes he made the right call in prosecuting two then-Border Patrol agents convicted of covering up their shooting of an unarmed drug smuggler in the back.

In a wide-ranging interview since announcing last week that he is resigning April 19, Sutton also said he was voluntarily leaving the job he’s had for more than seven years — the top federal prosecutor of the San Antonio-based Western District of Texas.

Sutton, who was nominated to the post by President George W. Bush, said he is leaving for a legal job in the private sector, but would not disclose where. He said President Barack Obama had asked current U.S. attorneys to stay on until replacements were chosen.

Beat me.

I was thinking that representing them would be his new "private sector" job.

I am not quite sure why so many are cheering Sutton being fired by Obama as it will be Obama who picks his replacement

One can only hope that Mr. Sutton becomes a victim of a heinous crime at the hands of a Mexican illegal.

Justice!

Compean and Ramos weren’t the only ones he went after. Others were prosecuted as well for such things as firing at a fleeing vehicle, killing someone hidden in the trunk, or firing at someone trying to drive over them while fleeing.

Good by and good riddance.

PING!

RAMOS/COMPEAN Ping
Please freepmail me if you want on or off this list.

The Stevens’ case demonstrates that a culture
has developed in which prosecutorial abuse of
power occurs-—even in the most powerful and
well-funded office in the nation. This policy review
reveals that this culture, and the type of misconduct
in the Stevens’ case, is prominent in jurisdictions
all over the country. (p.14)

Every DA/US Attorney I ever met has huge political ambitions. It’s up to the good folks of the Great State of Texas to ensure his hopes are dashed.

If that is the case I remember, no one was killed. The person in the trunk had her lip grazed by a bullet.

"Wonder how it feels to know that something you did resulted in a) the Presidential nominee from your own party losing significant support from that party's own base, b) the jailing of two men under horrific conditions that resulted in their injury, c) the President of the United States coming under routine and repeated political attack from his own Congressmen, resulting finally in d) the President of the United States having to finally give in and commute the sentences of the two jailed men.

Really must feel, umm....weird."

Just thinking like a conspiracy theory novelist here, but it might feel really good if this was the role assigned to him by the bipartisan consiracy that runs America (hypothetically speaking, of course), and he played it well.

"A job well done" might be what he is thinking.

Heck, Jamie Gorelick did very well financially with Fannie Mae after helping to sabotage our national security through her ill-advised Justice Dept policy -- The Gorelick Wall.

Failures can do very well in our society.

Johnny Sutton should be in jail. Does he have a wife, children? Will he now be defending drug dealers?

Sutton, you took years away from 2 fathers of young children. Those years cannot be replaced. You however, Mr.Sutton, can be replaced.

thanks, you probably remember better than I do. I did a quick search and came up empty. I just remember there have been a couple of other Border Patrol guys prosecuted for firing at fleeing illegals, not just R&C. You might almost believe Sutton’s story except that he’s done it several times now.

If you find anything, ping me.

I hope someone makes a movie about the Compean Ramos story and Satan comes off looking like the utter asshat that he is.

I dont even care if Michael Moore makes it—as long as Satan is properly portrayed as a horse’s patooty who twisted the Congressional intent of the statute on discharge of a firearm to persecute LEOs.

I don’t think Sutton did anything without Bush’s approval. The fish stinks from the head.
