Six Things You Should Know About the Homeland Security Report on ‘Rightwing Extremism’

Homeland Security Warns of Rise in Right-Wing Extremism

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report entitled “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment”, dated April 7, 2009, is apparently an unclassified summary of a larger classified report.

1.  The summary contains few proper names, has no footnotes of any significance, lists very few sources, and is drafted with a prejudice against anyone who criticizes the role of the federal government in our lives today. It lumps together in its definition of “rightwing extremism” hate groups, anti-government groups, and single issue groups “such as opposition to abortion or immigration.”

My guess is that the sentiments revealed in the report I read are the tip of an iceberg that the DHS would prefer to keep submerged until it needs to reveal it. This iceberg is the heavy-hand of government; a government with large and awful eyes, in whose heart there is no love for freedom, and on whose face there is no smile.

2.  The document itself cautions the reader that the document is “not to be released to the public, the media, or other personnel who do not have a valid need-to-know without prior approval” of the DHS. The document refers to itself as one of a series of intelligence assessments intended to “deter, prevent, preempt, or respond to terrorist attacks against the United States.”

3.  The thrust of this report is that in the present environment of economic instability, returning military veterans, those who fear of the loss of Second Amendment-protected rights, those threatened by an African-American president, and those who fear “Jewish ‘financial elites’” could all be a fertile breeding ground for groups whose power and ideas the government hates and fears.

Interesting. Good stuff — Isn’t Janet Napalitano, the DIRECTOR of the DHS, Andrew Napalitano’s SISTER?!?

I find THAT dynamic fascinating!

Shep on Fox is now trying to play this down and belittle those that attach importance to it. Further attempts to build up Obama and blame this on Bush.

They can’t call this shot back.

It’s a list I’d be proud to be on ... kinda like the Declaration of Independence was for its signers.

Agreed, but most of those guys died in extreme pain and/or poverty.

Shep has that homeland security woman on and another guy and they are saying there is also a left wing assessment, trying to take the heat off this right wing extremist document. When that right wing document was discovered was it on the White House Website alone? Has anyone seen a document addressing Left Wing Extremists like they are now claiming exists?

There’s a reason that a .22 cartridge fits a 1/8” pipe and a 12 guage fits a 3/4” pipe...

<.02>Notice the "harkening back" to the 90s. The perceived "militia" threat, the "upsurge" in right wing "disenchantment" with the government? Remember the Reno justice department? The term (in this country at least) "jack-booted thug" came out of that white house. They didn't have what we have now to help them in their evil crusade...... a patriot act that gives the fedgov some pretty abuse-able powers.

Pray for this country, keep your family close, and prepare for tough times.

This is just plain folk chatting here!

ruefully

* (U) Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

Don't forget 10th Amendment supporters and Federalist Papers fans. DHS didn't.

All I know is what I heard on FOX yesterday. Someone said that the WH put out a leftwing document also, back in January.

Naturally, it had to be blamed on Bush. The reporter said that although the Obama WH published the document, Bush people started the project.

That’s all I know. Your Congresscritters office should be able to help.

Their surnames aren't even spelled the same way.

Andrew Napalitano.

Janet Napolitano.

those threatened by an African-American president

You mean, "those threatened by an African-American socialist president."

It's the "socialist" part that warrants their feeling threatened, not the "African-American" part. "Socialism" was, is, and always will be, authoritarian in nature, and always requires theft of other people's time, work, money, and property. We should be afraid of it, and we should do everything possible to fight it.

There is NO historical inevitability to any of this movement to the left. But the longer we wait, the more difficult it will be to reverse.

I do not think it is necessarily as much about believing in Christ, as it is about not worshipping the government.
