OBAMA NIXES “JESUS” AT GEORGETOWN
Catholic League ^ | April 16, 2009 | staff

Posted on 04/16/2009 12:59:43 PM PDT by kellynla

When President Barack Obama spoke at Georgetown University on April 14, the White House requested that all religious symbols and signage that might appear as a backdrop to where the president was to speak be covered up. Georgetown acceded to the request and made sure that the symbol “IHS,” a monogram of the name Jesus Christ, was not in sight.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue spoke to this issue today:

“The cowardice of Georgetown to stand fast on principle tells us more than we need to know about what is going on there, but the bigger story is the audacity of the Obama administration to ask a religious school to neuter itself before the president speaks there. No bishop who might speak at the White House would ever request that a crucifix be displayed behind him. Moreover, the same church and state fanatics who go nuts every time a polling place is set up in the basement of a Catholic school have been noticeably silent over this incident.

“Obama will be speaking at Notre Dame, and receiving an honorary award, on May 17. Will his advance team ask Notre Dame to scrub the campus clean of religious symbols? Or just the ones that might appear behind the podium? Obama is in enough trouble with Catholics—over his pro-abortion executive orders and appointees, his position on embryonic stem cell research and his war on the conscience rights of healthcare workers—that it seems almost suicidal for his administration to push the envelope one more time. This is getting old fast.”

In my view (I’m of no particular religion but a Christian studying to be Catholic) if Obama is a Christian, as he professes to be, then he is an abominable example badly in need of repentance. No serious Christian could countenance his stance on abortion, for example. It is just plain evil. God could surely never condone it.

I think he is more likely to be a muslim. The apple does not fall far from the tree that bore it.

Hmmm why would the POTUS, historically a Christian nation, oppose a Christian symbol in background? Is he not the man who likes symbols as he made his own special seal following the election?

Maybe it is the same reason he said we are not a Christian nation last week. Maybe it is the same reason he went to Rev. Wright’s church.

Isn’t change great ?!

“Would that include the 75% of so-called Catholics who voted for Zero?”

This is like the proverbial fish story.
Every time I see that percentage posted on FR, it gets larger. LOL

I believe the poll was actually 53% and as I have said for more times than I care to remember, we don't know how many of those “Catholics” are/were “practicing” Catholics or CINO’s...just as we don't know how many of the 78% of Jewish who supposedly voted for Obama were “practicing” Jews or just JINO’s...but then, that's not your concern, now is it...
just another FR Catholic-basher...you can pick up your Anti-Catholic Bigot Badge on your way out.

Yep, and I spoke directly to the secretary of the president of Georgetown this a.m.

And what kind of explanation did you get?

Its good to see Georgetown U has the conviction born of its faith.

Why not just drop all the pretense of being a religion-based institution.

“Would that include the 75% of so-called Catholics who voted for Zero?/s”

It was 53% which was bad enough. I think you’re confusing it with the Jewish votes for Obama which was 78%.

(Another Catholic here)

“The cowardice of Georgetown”?
Georgetown is a very liberal college whereas Notre Dame is a Catholic College.
Both should be ashamed and this magic negro is a DAMNED piece of excrement.

I would tend to agree with the athiest idea.
I think he used religion when it was helpfull, and now just enough to stay ahead of the curve.
But I am not sure if that has anything to do with this incident. The covering of the regeous symbol is just plain weird.

53% is very bad indeed. Yes, I did confuse the percentages, they are probably both rife with sampling error anyhow.

Maybe he doesn’t like the competition from the Real Messiah. How do real Christians react to his ongoing blasphemy? Americans are being forced to kneel and bow to his Muslim idol-worship, yet everywhere he goes he blasphemes against Christians’ beliefs.

Not surprising that Obama would request / demand it but astonishing that Georgetown would acquiesce. What the heck were they thinking?

Why should I fear the darkest hour,
Or tremble at the tempters power?
When Jesus is my Mighty Tower;
Christ is all, and He is mine.

Tho’ hard the fight, why quit the field;
Why should I shrink, why should I yield;
When Jesus is my Mighty Shield?
Christ is all, and He is mine.

When creature comforts fade and die,
The world may weep, but why should I?
Jesus still lives, and He is nigh.
Christ is all and He is mine.

I know not what may soon betide,
Or how my wants may be supplied;
But Jesus knows and will provide.
Christ is all, and He is mine.

Tho’ faint my prayers, and cold my love,
My steadfast hope shall not remove;
While Jesus intercedes above.
Christ is all, and He is mine.

Against me earth and hell combine,
But on my side is power divine.
In the darkest hour, His glory shines.
Christ is all, and He is mine.

I am a patriot, love my country, and grieve for the things happening to us.
I am thankful that the ancient hymn I quoted above covers just about every event of life.
God’s eternal purpose is not hindered by Obama’s words.
On a human level, I feel sorry for him. There are a lot of things about this man that are broken. It comes out in his coldness, hatred and evil. I sure wouldn’t want to be him.
One day he will know, like us, that life is brief, and power is fleeting. Barack Obama will be a pitiful character like Bill Clinton.
I wish they knew my little hymn.
