OBAMA NIXES “JESUS” AT GEORGETOWN
Catholic League ^ | April 16, 2009 | staff

Posted on 04/16/2009 12:59:43 PM PDT by kellynla

When President Barack Obama spoke at Georgetown University on April 14, the White House requested that all religious symbols and signage that might appear as a backdrop to where the president was to speak be covered up. Georgetown acceded to the request and made sure that the symbol “IHS,” a monogram of the name Jesus Christ, was not in sight.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue spoke to this issue today:

“The cowardice of Georgetown to stand fast on principle tells us more than we need to know about what is going on there, but the bigger story is the audacity of the Obama administration to ask a religious school to neuter itself before the president speaks there. No bishop who might speak at the White House would ever request that a crucifix be displayed behind him. Moreover, the same church and state fanatics who go nuts every time a polling place is set up in the basement of a Catholic school have been noticeably silent over this incident.

“Obama will be speaking at Notre Dame, and receiving an honorary award, on May 17. Will his advance team ask Notre Dame to scrub the campus clean of religious symbols? Or just the ones that might appear behind the podium? Obama is in enough trouble with Catholics—over his pro-abortion executive orders and appointees, his position on embryonic stem cell research and his war on the conscience rights of healthcare workers—that it seems almost suicidal for his administration to push the envelope one more time. This is getting old fast.”

Shameful. Some Catholics may be speaking up but the prelates responsible for ND and Georgetown are silent. At ND the head of Jenkins's order, now known as the OPP (Order of Pontius Pilate), actually speaks in support of that POS. That order is directly responsible to the Pope.

The formerly self-proclaimed Catholic university of Georgetown claims to have a Jesuit identity, though these days, craven and cowardly, they are more like those who abandoned Him in the garden. The Jesuits are directly under the supervision of the Pope.

I am but a layman, but I will pray mightily the Lord will move Pope Benedict to exercise his ultimate authority, and restore the good name "Catholic" to both these institutions.

It appears a number of the US Catholic clergy need a good, long stay at some Trappist monastery where they can contemplate to which church they are actually belong and to which Lord they owe allegiance.

Georgetown University heard from this Episcopalian today. Their kowtowing to the Messiah wannabe is disgraceful.

Remember the famous Oliphant cartoon titled “The Annual Running of the Alter Boys at St. Paedophilia's Roman Catholic Church?

It was both heart breakingly sad, and sardonically true.

BS. Were there instances of priests molesting children? Yes. Were there failures of the local diocese to adequately deal with the issue (as in: have them arrested and defrocked) ? Yes. But in no way do those instances relfect the overall nature of the Catholic Church.

Do you know how many Catholics there are in the world? Do you know how many Catholic priests there are in the world? It is inevitable, due to the regularity of human failing, that there will be some priests who commit crimes or who fail in their vows, especially when you allow mentally disordered homosexuals to be priests, just as it is inevitable that you will find the same failings in EVERY OTHER profession. However, if you view the number of molestation cases against the size of the Church as a whole, you'll find that the relative number of these cases is actually very small, and is probably no greater than you might find with Protestant ministers, or public school teachers. Did Oliphant draw a cartoon describing the annual running of the students from public school teachers? No, even though the number of molestation cases in that organization dwarfs the priest molestation cases.

The hyping of the priest molestation cases was a deliberate exaggeration designed to attack the Church, and left-wing nutjobs like Oliphant are exactly the kind to perpetuate that propaganda. Stop being such a sucker.

Thank you. I wanted to say something, but at times it seems overwhelming.

I'm glad you did.

I couldn't agree with you more.

And many bishops have read ND the "riot act."

And I expect the same response for Georgetown.

“The covering of the regeous symbol is just plain weird.”

No it isn't. Obama is telling us who he is. No one will have a plausable excuse for not knowing.

and what should I apologize to you for...
you smearing Catholics!

You should apologize for falsely accusing me of anti-Catholic bigotry. I will be happy to discuss our faith via Freepmail, But for now, please remember the commandment, “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”.

“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”.

That's RICH, coming from you!

” Reminds me of those Germans who voted for Hitler and after the war claimed not to understand what he was all about.”

YOU are the only one who needs to apologize for comparing Catholics to Nazi sympathizers!

And before I leave you to your ignorant posts.

My Catholic father put his ass on the line fighting the Germans, so you can take those Nazi comparisons to Catholics insults and shove ‘em where the sun don't shine...take that thought to Mass with you tomorrow!

I believe it would be better than a millstone around their necks. I suppose there is a millstone fitting going on right now. It is extremely dangerous for those who have professed to lead children in the Lord’s Way to stray outside their calling. Georgetown will have the Lord’s blessing removed. He will dust off his feet and move on.

In point of fact, the Church did little to nothing except transfer the pedophile priests, and the flamers in the gay seminaries were likewise known but tolerated.

While I like lawyers as little as any American, the facts are clear. The Church knew it had a problem and swept it under the table.

That translated into “SUE ME” and they were sued.

Oliphant is far from a Constitutionally oriented American, granted. But, his cartoon was spot on, particularly the exchange between the man and his wife in the foreground.

Lest you think I am a Catholic basher, I agree that when one removes the priest, often one gets not paradise on earth, but the witch doctor, instead.

Are you sure your post #59 should be directed to me?

On what basis do you accuse me of analogizing the Catholic Church with the Third Reich?
