The news media howled when Dan Quayle, then vice president, remarked, "I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret I have was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so I could converse with those people."
Trouble is, he didn't say it: a Congress member made up the quote as a joke. Fellow Republican George W. Bush provoked media mirth by referring to citizens of Greece as "Grecians," East Timorese as "East Timorians" and Kosovars as "Kosovians." But the worshipful media virtually ignored the howler offered up by President Obama during his European tour:
"There's a lot of I don't know what the term is in Austrian wheeling and dealing ..." In fact, Austrians speak German. Some in the media, including reporters for The Associated Press and Bloomberg News, seemingly were so taken by their hero as not to notice the error even when they quoted it. Here's hoping they're a bit more alert when covering the president's actual policy pronouncements.

If you want on or off this list, let me know.
The Latin comment was recently mentioned on Jeopardy. Got me a little worked up because they’re usually better about fact-checking those kind of things. (And they had so much to choose from to begin with)
...no laughing
...no ridicule of his lack of experience
...no mention of the missing birth certificate
...he is the Affirmative Action King...all Hail his perfection...
