President Obama, after meeting Thursday with Mexico's president, signaled he is backing away from his pledge to renew the U.S. ban on assault weapons but still wishes to stop the cross-border flow of guns that wind up in the arsenals of drug cartels.
The military-style assault weapon ban expired in 2004, and Obama faced an uphill political battle in winning a renewal of the law, which is unpopular in key political states and among Republicans and some conservative Democrats.
Obama said Thursday he preferred to focus on enforcing existing laws to keep assault weapons out of Mexico, rather than trying to renew the U.S. ban on the weapons.

It will be shoved through by Pelosi and Co, with other gun control attached (HR 45 et all), attached to a “Must Pass” bill. Obama will sign it and say that he had no choice.

Yes. He plans on bringing the U.N.’s international treaty banning guns to Congress for their approval.
Personally, I don’t think it will ever be signed. If he tries it before November, 2010, the Democrats will have a bloodbath at the polls, and he knows it.
I've owned and still own various guns, etc., and I still don't know what this is, as they define it.

He's an enemy of the constitution and will confiscate your guns the first chance he gets.

Or ask where the machine guns the Mexican police were showing off earlier in the week came from. Do they really think somebody did the paperwork and bought them in the USA? Or did they just come from someplace like El Salvador or Columbia, or a corrupt guy in Mexico?
The MSM is not backing away from the issue. They are practically frothing at the mouth. They want semi-automatic gun banned and they want them banned now. I heard their whining on PBS, MSNBC and ABC today. Even Giraldo was begging for the ban to protect Mexico.
Mexicans must have achieved a higher skill level of hunting and fishing than us.
Why drop a line in the water where the fish are and just sit there? Just toss a grenade in and wait until they float up to catch them in a net. Just the ones that aren't blown in half?
And what kind of bird does a reasonable person want to hunt that requires 60mm anti-aircraft machine weapons? Are the birds that big down there? Dick Cheney would like to upgrade his skills regarding ducks:)
