The case for Pat Toomey? Why, Arlen Specter, of course [PA 2010] [purge the RINOs]
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | 2009-04-19 | Andrea Tantaros

Posted on 04/20/2009 1:17:30 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Former Pennsylvania Congressman Pat Toomey almost inched out a victory against long-term Washington fixture and faux Republican Arlen Specter in 2004. It was one of the most expensive primary campaigns in U.S. history.

A mere 17,000 votes separated the two out of the 1 million votes cast. That was less than two percentage points.

And here comes the rematch. On Tax Day, Toomey, who just stepped down as president of The Club for Growth, formally announced he'll yet again attempt to unseat the Keystone State's senior U.S. senator.

Specter already is sweating. Just the hint of a Toomey run had Specter running negative campaign ads that skirted, if not outright distorted, the truth. One thing is crystal clear -- Arlen Specter is scared. And he should be.

Let's look at his voting record.

Specter consistently has voted for increased government spending and a liberal agenda on social, labor, immigration and national security policies. In just the past few months, Specter voted in favor of the unprecedented and outrageous Wall Street and auto company bailouts and the massive "stimulus" bill better characterized as "spendulus."

For three decades Specter has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from party political committees like the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the Republican National Committee. These organizations raise money from Republican donors across the country who give to ensure that candidates who will vote to protect and defend Republican principles in Congress are supported.

But Specter, in a repeated exercise of what can only be termed temerarious arrogance, has done just the opposite.

On the most serious and substantive issues of the day, he often has thumbed his nose at the GOP and voted with the Left.

Manic? Yes. A maverick? No.

The Republican Party has come out for Specter. It’s time to defund the Republican Party. Only give money to conservatives, Specter must go.

I have not heard Mike Steele endorse Sphincter yet, when I do I will make my move and become an Independent.

Better a Democrat in Pa. than a RINO who votes Democrat.

Arlen Specter and garbage like him are what is wrong with the Republican party. RINO TURDS.
Specter should be in stocks where everyday folks can walk by and throw rotten food at.

You are right. We must give directly to the non-RINO candidates. The RNC will just give your money to the incumbent RINO. I have had enough of the RNC.

Yes, the NRSC Chairman John Cornyn has sent out a letter endorsing Specter. I emailed them and told them that they wouldn’t get another penny from me. Can’t wait to get their next fundraising call.

My money and vote goes to Pat Toomey.

The corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" is owned by the elites for the elites. Why wouldn't they support him. No way would I ever give money to this charade - these 2 political parties. Buy guns & ammo for a better way to spend your money.

There is really very little difference between the parties. Both are filled with politicians who are far more interested in re-election, power, self agrandizement and wealth than in the well being of the nation or the rights of the American people. When voters finally LEARN this tragic fact, perhaps we’ll begin to ignore party calls to elect the “lesser of evils!!”

From here in PA I urge everyone to keep their local GOP politicians from supporting Specter with money and raise a big stink about it.

Orrin Hatch and John Cornyn, Mitch McConnell etc. are his big promoters.

Keep an eye on the talk shows. I still can’t understand why Rush Limbaugh gave Specter airtime last year to talk about his cancer suffering book. It was like Rush was allowing Specter to use his show to create sympathy for him.

Get angry when anyone from talk hosts to political figures give Specter money or airtime.

If only it weren’t Pat Toomey, who almost put Rudy Giuliani up as the GOP Presidential nominee, you would have my sympathies.

But that sin is unforgivable. I would actually rather have Specter, and frankly he will hold the seat. Toomey would be making a concession call by 8:30 p.m.

Anyone but Toomey, Giuliani’s big booster, and I’d be wanting to see Arlen outsted, too.

I don’t want Toomey almost costing us the entire Conservative movement, and then costing us a rare Blue-State Senate seat, too.
