In my opinion it is important to keep a little extra cash on hand. Also, a pantry full of food, water, some kind of weapon for protection and a full tank of gas in your vehicle.

Everything was so rosey the last few months for the finanicals. Literally overnight the market turns with no true information. Makes one wonder who really is behind the curtain on Wall Street.

Never let a good crisis go to waste ... and never miss an opportunity to turn a near-crisis into a full crisis, see above.

The bad debt has to be shaked out. Next, the freeloaders in the economy have to be retrained to manufacturing and physical labor or learn to do something productive. Three, the fat and lazy babyboomers have to retire or learn to pick cabbage. Four, the government pension plans have to be cut to Zero. Five, taxes have to be cut.

Sudden turns in the market are highly correlated with unexpected Congressional legislation proposals, or sudden changes in the likelihood of previously unpassable legislation making it into law. The news over the weekend regarding Congressional action on credit card terms and conditions is a good example and the change that was priced in on Monday, 20Apr09. The unpredictability affects the models used by professional investors trying to estimate the future marginal cost of a share in publicly traded corporations.

Barter items may be better than cash. A 10# bag of loose SILVER coins, bags of coffee, sugar, or other staples, and of course, lead, are all needed items and can easily barter!

I bought 150 gallons of gasoline a couple of months ago, at $149.9 in jerry cans (SAFELY STORED), and 5 cases of oil. My auto and motor home also have full tanks. I have 6 propane tanks, as well (gotta feed the weber grill!!!).

It's dead, Jim...

“Three, the fat and lazy babyboomers have to retire or learn to pick cabbage.”

Excuse me?

Which fat and lazy boomers are you speaking of?

This one, and the one pinged, as well as many, many others are busy employing GenXers and GenYers.

Sheesh! You could show some respect!

Nevermind...I’ll be busy showing you absolutely no respect at all.

You might get some of the gasoline preservative you put in gas to keep it from going bad. I know nothing of it but have heard about it.
