San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom To Run For Governor

San Francisco, CA (AHN) - San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom announced he will run for governor of California.

The 41-year-old mayor used social networking sites Twitter and Facebook to announce his decision to seek the Democratic nomination for the state's gubernatorial race to succeed Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

"I'm running for Governor because California needs a new direction. In San Francisco, we've defended people's civil rights, created a universal health care program, protected teachers from layoffs and enacted a local stimulus plan that will put people back to work and save jobs. And we've done it while balancing our budgets and seeing our bond ratings go up," Mayor Newsom said.

"We've gotten things done in San Francisco by putting politics aside and focusing on finding solutions to tough problems. State government is failing because the politicians in Sacramento spend all their time fighting each other instead of fighting for Californians. We can't keep returning to the same old tired solutions and expect a different result," Newsom added.

Newsom could face opposition from 71-year-old Attorney General Jerry Brown and 64-year-old Lt. Gov. John Garamendi in next year's Democratic primary, as well as 56-year-old Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and 75-year-old U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, also mentioned as possible contenders.

We are way behind the dems. We need to start networking using facebook, twitter, Digg It, etc. to get the messages out to the youth. I am talking to myself because I don’t know how to do any of it.

Look at those ages. The only serious dem competitors are Newsom and Villar.

Never thought I’d say this but Gov. Moonbeam would be a much more preferable candidate. “Any twosom” Newsom (credit to Michael Savage)is way beyond radical leftist.

Thanks in part to the Governator for helping pave the way for AnyTwoSomeNewsom to follow in his footsteps. I feel very sorry for conservative Californians.

Off-topic Diana - you hear the news that Scott Walker is getting thrown under the bus by Tommy Thompson and the WI GOP in favor of ex-Congressman Mark Neumann? Looks like Walker is getting the Palin treatment by the GOP establishment.

I wouldn't categorize him as a radical leftist. He is more an pandering opportunist extrodinaire. I met him a couple of years ago at the Japantown parade. He was going down the sidewalk shaking hands. When he reached me I shook his hand and complimented him on his hair and asked him how much gel does he really use. LOL. I got the eye dagger stare from Gavy although a couple of his security detail smirked. I guess I had to much Sake. :>)

Let’s see should I vote for the guy with values I disagree with or for the guy with no values what so ever? That is actually a hard question.

Fag Newsom (well that’s who he’s pandered to all this time) for Governor. What a mess this country’s in. I am praying every day for Christ to come back. It’s the only way this stuff finally gets set right.

Well, if nothing else, it adds yet another clown to the Democrat party circus here. Think we’re gonna see a reprise of that clip of Gavin Gruesome “Whether you like it or not!”??

Nope. Hadn’t heard that. My local conservative radio crew is behind Walker 100%...as are large swaths of the state.

But, I wouldn’t put it past them! The WI GOP is pretty much non-existent at this time and those in charge are a bunch of p*ssies, IMHO. I want bloody-knuckle, caged death match politics, but NO ONE in this state seems to have the stomach for that except me, LOL!

But, thanks for the ‘Head’s Up.’ ;)

I’d go for the guy with no values.

Villar however would likely be highly incompetent.

Garamendi btw is now running for Congress.

I know of at least three votes none of them would get. Time to get some representation from Socal.
