WASHINGTON – As national security adviser in the Bush White House, Condoleezza Rice verbally OK'd the CIA's request to subject alleged al-Qaida terrorist Abu Zubaydah to waterboarding in July 2002, a decision memorialized a few days later in a secret memo that the Obama administration declassified last week.
Rice's role was detailed in a narrative released Wednesday by the Senate Intelligence Committee. It provides the most detailed timeline yet for how the CIA's harsh interrogation program was conceived and approved at the highest levels in the Bush White House.
The new timeline shows that Rice played a greater role than she admitted last fall in written testimony to the Senate Armed Services Committee.
The narrative also shows that dissenting legal views about the severe interrogation methods were brushed aside repeatedly.

Imagine you're back in late 2001 or early 2002 and someone predicted that in a few short years the relatively mild interrogation methods employed on the terrorists belonging to the organization that killed thousands of American citizens on 9/11/01 would be a very controversial issue for about half of the citizenry, despite the fact that it's been proven that such methods were successful in saving countless American lives. ...and that the President of the U.S. at the time would be a guy with primarily communist and black nationalist influences by the name of Barack Hussein Obama.
Few would've believed it, obviously. Yet this is precisely what has happened -- half the country is certifiably insane.

It would never make it probably even into the House Judiciary Committee (where if I am not mistaken it would go upon introduction into the House). Certainly it would not get the desired amount of votes to go to the full House.
Cheney and Rice have wanted nothing more than to go quietly into retirement. Obama is going to make that impossible, and I’m glad.
Rice and Cheney both need to come out fighting. If they’ll step up to the plate, people will listen. If Cheney will take on the O, I’ll quit my job and work in his campaign. We’re way past playtime, we need to find out who our warriors are, and clean house.
