Er... you’re assuming these folks want a job...
I think I will prepare a little message for the wino wearing a diamond earring whom I see begging in Crystal City occasionally.
The guy at our interstate exit is a professional exit panhandler.
The guy at our interstate exit is a professional exit panhandler.
You’re assuming these folks can read.
No, not necessarily, but I do wish to help in a small way
There was one on an interstate once that a friend of mine passed. He got off a little bit further at the exit and pulled into a station. He saw the guy walk over a rise and a few minutes later pull out on the road in a nice Caddie.
They don't.
A local news station ran a story a few years back wherein they interviewed several street beggers ALL of who said they make up to $14 an hour begging. They did not want to work and refused work offered to them. This was in San Diego.
It reminds me of the classic rock radio station in Memphis, ROCK103. Around Christmas time a few years ago, they were asking listeners to participate in their half pints for the homeless.
They wanted folks to go out and buy half pint bottles of liquor and hand them out to the homeless. A bit of a tongue in check gesture. But still, it was kind of nice.
Sometimes they don’t want a job. They just want to mooch off of others. Here’s the story of two “affluent beggars”:

These people aren’t the norm, but many beggars can’t hold down a job because of various addictions.
You just paid him to be a panhandler. How does that help him?
I see a guy I used to go to school with a lot, and now I can offer a hand-out with a way -out, educate them to resist the Democrat who promises the world and leaves them stranded at the exit
Not to be mean or anything, and maybe I’m a cynic, but every time I see a bum or beggar, I always wonder if they are truly that.
I’ve heard stories of people who work and then pretend to be a beggar to get extra (tax free) money.
And one of my friends, a few years ago, had lost his job and decided to be a beggar for a day, just to see what happened. He came back 2 hours later with $40. $20/hour is pretty good for doing nothing but sit on the side of the road and beg.
I guess I don’t really feel as bad as I should for these guys. In my mind, and it may seem harsh, but I think there are places for them to go, if they really wanted to not be starving and homeless, where they could clean up and if they tried, they could get something to accomodate living and food.
I could be wrong, but that’s my take.
Well, after reading your posts I’m not so sure that couple’s story is an exception. A Cadillac? Wow.
The idea is to teach the ones who are willing, it’s not necessarily to give money, a care package would be fine, there are going to be more poor folks then we could ever imagine as Democrats ruin the economy
It’s not the pay, it’s teaching fiscal conservatism that will count
today was the first time I offered anything, he was about 60 yrs old, and when he thanked me and said ‘God Bless You’, I believe he meant it. It is obvious this situation is going to get worse until Democrat policies are repealed
Their job is to portray beggars.
Small businesses are hunkering down, cutting workers, saving capital in preparation of Obamanomics.
That $750B ‘Bailout’ has become a $3T fiasco under Geithner and Obama. The ‘progressives’ voted for this!
